Depending on the applications received, Manager positions within these areas may be tailored to suit the strengths and career goals of successful applicants.
As Manager within the Reactor Safety Systems department, each position will have responsibility for:
- Leading a team of System Design Engineers, comprising both permanent and seconded (contracted) staff, through the design delivery of systems important to nuclear safety.
- Supporting the area Senior Manager, Head of Department and Chief Design Engineer to develop the team and grow the design capability to meet business objectives.
- Line managing permanent members of staff within the relevant design team.
The Manager positions hold significant responsibility for design delivery in a high paced, technically exciting environment. Successful applicants will have:
- A high degree of technical competence in systems design and project/programme management.
- The ability to inspire confidence in stakeholders through consistent high-quality communications, development of technical solutions and design delivery.
- The ability to lead a team through the delivery of a complex design programme, with good interpersonal and team building skills.
- The ability to work with ambiguity; making sensible assumptions, managing stakeholder expectations, bringing to bear subject matter expertise and collaborating positively across the business to find solutions to complex issues.
System design activities span a wide range of technical disciplines. To manage a system design team it is desirable, but not essential, for candidates to have experience of the following:
- Being able to elicit design requirements, study relevant good practice, develop design options, assess and down-select options and conclude a suitable design solution.
- Developing design requirements, optioneering records and design definitions under change control.
- Producing, reviewing and/or approving design documentation such as design descriptions, piping & instrumentation diagrams and requirement specifications.
- Supporting the assessment of design definitions, to evidence their compliance with relevant environmental, safety, security and safeguarding requirements.
The majority of systems within the Reactor Safety Systems department are commencing their detailed design phase, building upon their concept definitions. It’d be advantageous for applicants to have experience of detailed design and/or demonstrate the level of thinking/knowledge applicable to process systems in this design phase.
