Main Purpose of Job:
As a Regional Competency Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of the St. James's Place Training and Competence Schemes within your region. You will provide expert consultancy and assurance to ensure the consistent and accurate application of scheme requirements.
A key aspect of the role is ensuring that the competency of all Partners and Supervisors is assessed both at the outset and on a regular, ongoing basis, with timely and appropriate action taken to address any risk exceptions in line with regulatory obligations.
You will also ensure the effective delivery of the Training and Competence Scheme and full compliance with regulatory standards for all Partners and Supervisors in your designated region—covering approximately 830 Advisers and 18 Supervisors per RCO (subject to changes under the new organisational structure).
What you'll be doing:
- Provide independent oversight of the application of the T&C Scheme, ensuring relevant Partner supervision and remedial action is undertaken. This will include reviewing: Partner competency records, Partner interaction records, Skills assessments and risk action plans
- Responsible for ensuring SJP's Training and Competence arrangements are robust and fit for purpose, including maintaining the T&C Scheme (policy), ensuring it remains up to date with any regulatory and corporate changes/Initiatives.
- To undertake analysis of the monthly KPI data and highlight exceptions through to the Supervisor. This will include a review of the detailed back-up data, KPI trends and previous Supervisor actions/comments to ensure only true exceptions are raised.
- Utilise knowledge and expertise to act as a consultant for T&C queries, such as agree an Adviser's return to work requirements and process following a period of absence.
- Meet monthly with Supervisors to present and discuss the exceptions report, and agree appropriate remedial actions. Also schedule T&C activity to ensure all requirements are met.
- Deliver training and guidance on the Scheme requirements.
- Monitor the action taken on the risk exceptions to ensure it is appropriate and effective.
- Ensure that key T&C risks are managed appropriately and provide challenge where necessary.
- Using expertise and judgement to identify and escalate any risk or competency issues to Senior Management.
Who we're looking for:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented individual with strong expertise in Training & Competence frameworks and regulatory standards. They must also be confident in consulting and influencing Supervisors and Partners, offering clear guidance while ensuring the highest standards of compliance and oversight are consistently maintained across their region.
Essential
- Experience within the Financial Services industry, including that within a Training and Competence role would be desirable but full training will be given
- Understanding of the St. James’s Place and the FCA Training and Competence Scheme rules and guidance
- Good Communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent stakeholder management
Desirable
- An understanding of the SJP Partnership and Field Management structure
- A good understanding of Salesforce
