What To Expect
As the Regional Construction Safety Senior Advisor, you'll be at the forefront of driving Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) excellence in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Serving as a trusted technical advisor to project managers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), you'll ensure compliance with regional regulations, mitigate risks, and foster a culture of safety across a range of construction projects. This role is essential to our commitment to delivering safe, sustainable infrastructure, where your expertise will help shape innovative solutions in complex, fast-paced settings.
You will manage the New Project Opening (NPO) process, developing robust plans, set projects up for success from day one and provide technical guidance and advice to a range of stakeholders. Additionally, you'll oversee contractor management, including onboarding, performance monitoring, and alignment with EHS standards, while collaborating with diverse teams in engineering, legal, and operations to ensure seamless phase transitions. You'll also champion safety innovation, applying first-principles thinking to optimize processes and promote enhanced safety practices across multicultural teams.
The ideal candidate will be located in the Netherlands, UK, or France with up to 40% travel within EMEA (with occasional global trips) and will be fluent in English. French, Dutch or German are also desirable.
What You'll Do
Provide technical construction EHS advice to project managers, identifying, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with EMEA regulations in complex project environments. Support the New Project Opening (NPO) process, including the development of EHS Management Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), checklists, standard site setups, and provisioning equipment (e.g., spill kits, bunds, first aid kits, visitor PPE). Oversee contractual EHS deliverables, draft and review legal documents, and ensure pre-construction compliance with EMEA regulations (e.g., CDM 2015, EU-OSHA Directives 89/391/EEC, 92/57/EEC), facilitating seamless handoffs to construction and operational EHS teams. Play a key role in contractor management within EMEA, including onboarding, performance monitoring, and EHS alignment using the company’s workforce management system. Standardize EHS processes and integrate data into company EHS management systems (e.g., compliance tracking or project management platforms) to enhance operational efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, legal, contractors, service operations) to align EHS processes and ensure consistent application across projects. Drive safety innovation by applying first-principles thinking to optimize EHS processes, develop risk mitigation strategies, and enhance safety and efficiency. Work with consultancy partners to systematically identify and audit construction work, while providing field safety oversight of work activities and developing a mechanism to ensure adherence to national and regional health and safety regulations across multiple sites.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP) highly preferred. 5+ years of EHS experience in construction, EPC, or renewable energy projects, including managing EHS for construction projects, developing Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS), EHS Management Plans, and site setups, with expertise in EMEA regulations and fast-paced environments. In-depth knowledge of European EHS regulations (e.g., CDM 2015, EU- Directives) and familiarity with global EHS standards (e.g., ISO 45001), with strong skills in document preparation, managing contractual deliverables, and collaborating with project and legal teams. Thrives in a fast-paced global organization, using a first-principles approach and excellent communication to engage diverse stakeholders (senior leadership, contractors, regulators) while delivering high-quality EHS support under tight deadlines with adaptability. Proven ability to manage consultants, staff augmentation, and Principal Designer roles under CDM 2015 and other EU equivalents, ensuring effective coordination and compliance in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
