Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

We are looking for a Regulatory Adviser to join our General Counsel team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, focusing on SRA compliance and related matters and are flexible as to location.

Working as a Regulatory Advisor, you’ll be a subject matter expert in at least one General Counsel Team (GCT) business area and be responsible for providing complex advice and resolution to the business to ensure that it’s able to meet its regulatory and legal obligations. You’ll manage direct liaison and guidance with Associates and Partners across the business, where you’ll provide advice, reports and regulatory guidance to those individuals in a proactive manner when needed. You may also be required to be responsible for a Business Partner role in a less complex area of the business and/or assist with a complex Business Partner area.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Working autonomously to undertake mid-complexity matters on a daily basis with limited supervision.
• Dealing with complex queries with guidance and supervision from the Head of Regulatory.
• Escalating any complex queries to your manager, but with your opinion and proposed solution, where you’ll then be able to complete these matters.
• Meet your own personal KPIs and also works as part of a team to ensure GCT meets its KPI.
• Review, assist and coach our Officers and Analysts to support their development in their own area.
• Assist the Manager/s with project work to improve processes within the team and business wide.
• Be a key point of contact and escalation for your area of expertise.
• Drafting papers and reports where necessary for the Manager and wider business.
• Maintain good commercial awareness when providing advice to the business.
• Delivers training to fee earners and new joiners to GCT.
• Provide accurate support, ad hoc analyses, projections and investigations in response to queries raised by staff and Partners of the firm

About You

• A background working in a Compliance or in-house legal function, ideally from a Law firm. We are also open to applications from practising solicitors who have the relevant compliance experience and are looking to move across into an in-house position.
• Hold extensive practical knowledge and understanding of SRA Standards and Regulations, and be able to provide advice based on these principles.
• Regulatory knowledge and awareness of FCA regulations.
• Previous experience working to multiple deadlines on various tasks and projects.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to negotiate when necessary.
• Have the confidence to be able to present and report to senior managers, both written and verbal.
• We would like for you to have a Lawyer / legal qualification, although this is not essential.
