The Role
Are you looking for a role where your work helps protect the environment and keeps our communities safe? Join our team as a Trade Effluent Assistant, where you’ll play a key part in supporting our Regulatory Controllers Trade Effluent (RCTE) team.
In this role, you’ll help monitor and control trade effluent discharges into our sewer network for a dedicated group of low-risk, non-household customers. You’ll also have the opportunity to support colleagues across different teams, gaining exposure to a variety of areas and building valuable skills along the way.
Key Accountabilites
- Collecting samples and meter readings to monitor and control discharges from low-risk traders, while assisting RCTEs with other traders when needed.
- Liaising with non-household customers to provide advice and support.
- Helping RCTEs identify and address illegal discharges to the sewer network.
- Reviewing sample analysis results for a set portfolio of traders and notifying relevant stakeholders.
- Escalating cases of non-compliance to the appropriate Lead RCTE.
- Assisting in gathering and presenting evidence to support enforcement actions.
- Supporting investigations and reporting on incidents or spillages affecting highways and the sewerage system.
- Providing out-of-hours support during trade effluent discharge incidents.
Essential Skills
To be considered for this role, you will hold an NVQ/QCF Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline, with strong knowledge of Trade Effluent legislation and the retail market. You must be fit and able as the roles involves manual tasks such as lifting manhole covers and working in outdoor environments.
You will also bring:
- A sound understanding of the company’s Health & Safety culture, processes, and systems.
- A full UK driving license.
- Experience in a customer-facing environment.
- Strong planning, organisational, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Good IT skills, including MS Word and Excel.
- The ability to perform under pressure, remain self-motivated and prioritise your own workload effectively.
- A track record of meeting deadlines without compromising quality.
Additional Information:
- You will be required to participate in a standby rota and must have the flexibility to attend within an agreed timescale.
