Your future role
Take on a new challenge by being based at the Manchester depot and apply your financial reporting expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You will work with the Finance department and help to control and analyse actual overhead costs versus budget and forecast and be a close support for cost centre owners to understand and follow their budget (headcount, hours reporting and costs).
We’ll look to you for:
- Month-end closing process: Journal calculation and preparation, generation of hours’ accrual, balance sheet reconciliations (where applicable)
- Time-booking analysis and reporting throughout the month
- Review, analyse and comment on variances between Budget, Forecast and Actual figures
- Raise "Early Warnings" when necessary to increase management attention
- Fixed Assets: Central point for Capital Expenditure enquiries and subsequent input to the fixed asset reporting tool
- Support the production of reliable and accurate financial information for management and head office in line with the ALSTOM RAM (Reporting and Accounting Manual) and ensure all deadlines are met
- Support the Reporting & Budget Controller with the preparation of the budget and forecasts and ensure compliance with deadlines
- Support the Reporting & Budget Controller to carry out ad hoc analyses
- Support external and internal audits
- Support for Themis (internal control) processes
- Ad hoc tasks and special projects such as purchase order approvals and management, saving proposals / set cost targets / action plans
- Apply the Continuous Improvement approach to improve processes
- To comply with and undertake all relevant Environment, Health and Safety measures and activities.

- Finalist or Newly Qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or ACMA or equivalent
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills is essential
- Basic PowerPoint skills required
- Previous experience of using SAP ERP system is highly desirable
- Experience in a similar role within a finance function is preferable
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language (written and spoken) with people at different levels
- Able to work effectively as a member of a team to co-ordinate and ensure consistency of reporting
- Ability to influence and instil confidence in those inside and outside of the finance department
- Ability to organise and prioritise in order to be effective
- Must be able to work autonomously (self-motivated)
- Ability to use and have previous experience of integrated financial systems
- Should be extremely numerate and have an excellent knowledge of accounting and finance
- Occasional travel will be required for this role (UK only)
