The Vacancy
We are looking for someone to join our crop protection group to support and manage a range of herbicide efficacy projects. You will work within the weed science team, on projects that focus on a range of relevant topics including herbicide efficacy primarily but also require a knowledge of integrated weed management and novel technologies. You will be part of a team that develops and supports a wide-ranging programme of research (lab testing, glasshouse and field-based experiments) to improve the efficacy and sustainability of weed management, including herbicide resistance management through to the cultural control of weeds to formulate effective sustainable and robust strategies for the UK arable, grassland and horticulture industries. The role will have a commercial focus and require good communication skills and the ability to work independently, interacting with other specialists within ADAS and external clients and collaborators. You will have demonstrable knowledge of agriculture, horticulture weed management and/or agronomy in the UK, an ability to interpret data and communicate information effectively to a range of stakeholders and clients. Knowledge of the practical issues facing the food and non-food crop production sectors and basic horticulture skills are desirable. The role will suit someone looking to develop a career in holistic weed control practices with a particular focus on herbicide efficacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and manage all aspects of existing weed science projects.
- Focus on herbicide efficacy testing in field and glasshouse trials.
- Plan and deliver project meetings, develop knowledge exchange materials and reports in line with agreed project milestones.
- Clear communication with stakeholders, project partners and funders.
- Working independently and with project partners/ADAS colleagues to market and promote project materials and outputs.
- Support senior and principal consultants to develop new project ideas and proposals, as well as your own.
- Develop a good profile and reputation within and outside ADAS, with clients, collaborators and the scientific community.
What We Require
- Degree BSc (Hons) or MSc in a relevant subject e.g. Environmental Sciences, Biology/Biological Sciences, Applied Biology/Ecology, Plant science, Agriculture or Horticulture, or relevant industry experience.
- Knowledge and experience of herbicide efficacy in the UK.
- Clear presenting style and demonstrable skills in written and verbal communication.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to work across a range of internal groups and external organisations.
- Full UK driving licence.
Salary And Benefits
- This is a permanent role based at ADAS Boxworth, Cambridgeshire.
- Salary range £30k to £38k per annum depending on experience.
