Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Dr Jenny Lord at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), University of Sheffield, UK.
You will play a key role in a new project using big datasets and innovative computational approaches to identify genetic regions regulating splicing and gene expression, and investigating how disruption in these elements leads to common and rare disease. You will work with large scale genome sequencing datasets (e.g. UK BioBank, 100,000 Genomes Project, gnomAD) and RNA-Seq data, adapting and applying computational genomics methods such as the Mutability Adjusted Proportion of Singletons (MAPS).
You will be expected, with guidance from the PI, to identify and adapt relevant methodologies, manage large data sets, plan and execute large scale computational analyses, compile and present results, contribute to writing publications, present at lab meetings and conferences and contribute to other activities in the group as needed (e.g. supervision of student projects).
The post is available for 20 months, with potential for extension subject to funding. It is funded by an Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard award.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Undertake research in line with project requirements.
- Design and run analyses on large scale datasets, managing data access, analysis and storage.
- Take a lead role in interpretation and write-up of data, supporting project reports and publications.
- Present findings at local meetings and external conferences.
- Keep up to date with relevant literature.
- Work independently and as part of a team to deliver the research aims.
- Contribute to supervision of PhD and MSc students working in the group.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
