We are looking for two highly motivated post-doctoral scientists with good knowledge of methodologies for measuring biodiversity change for biodiversity credits and strong track records of publishing good papers in relevant journals, using the research methodologies and techniques in this research area. The purpose of this role will be to support the principal investigator and associated Work Package research team in conducting research in our NERC-funded project ‘Developing a new co-designed decision support tool for biodiversity credits and investment’. The post holder will be expected to undertake independent research as well as working as part of a team. This will include using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, as follows:

  • Write code to apply biodiversity credit methodologies to data on a wide range of species groups.
  • Co-develop, with the project investigators, scenarios for testing the methodologies.
  • Develop and code data simulations, to fit defined scenarios.
  • Investigate how the outputs from different biodiversity credit calculations are influenced by variation in sampling design, including use of GIS.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of biodiversity credit calculation workflows.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including ecologists, biodiversity credit companies, and economists.
  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of findings to peer-reviewed journals.

The role holder will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to develop research methods and extend their research portfolio. Both positions are full time and will start as soon as possible and finish by 31 st January 2026.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
