Reserving Analyst in our
Reserving Department.
Sompo’s Reserving team delivers actuarial expertise across global insurance and reinsurance portfolios, supporting regulatory, financial, and management reporting for multiple business segments. Through rigorous analysis and close partnership with Finance and regional business units, the Reserving team ensures robust reserve adequacy and compliance with evolving regulatory standards. The vacancy is within the International Reserving unit and focusses on the UK business working collaboratively from offices in London, New York, and Singapore.

What You’ll Be Doing
This role has three key areas of responsibility:
Assist in the quarterly reserving process for key product lines within Sompo’s UK business by setting assumptions, performing ACE projections in accordance with the Group Reserving Calendar, and delivering deep-dive analyses and strategic projects Support the Senior Reserving Actuary in the delivery of high-quality outputs, including preparing and presenting reserving results and enhancing M.I. for the UK reserving team using AI tools and Power BI. Support wider team initiatives such as participating in working groups and assisting with reporting requirements for the UK legal entity.
Product Line responsibilities
- Support the quarterly reserving process for key lines, including:
- Update of key assumptions such as IELRs, development profiles, and ceded recovery rates.
- Review and challenge of catastrophe estimates, watchlist items, and other specific IBNRs.
- Performing actuarial central estimate (ACE) projections
- Support the delivery of recommendations and MI to external stakeholders.
- Deliver deep-dive analyses and strategic projects per the schedule set out in the Group Reserving Calendar.
- Participating in Sompo-wide cross-functional working groups. Recent examples include working groups focused on climate change, AI, and inflation.
UK business responsibilities
- Creating and circulating a monthly reserving summary (focusing on actual vs. expected movements and claim activity) to the UK leadership team.
- Present at quarterly reserving-focused meeting with the UK Claims team.
- Prepare quarterly updates on Sompo’s LPT’d Lloyd’s Syndicate for UK business partners.
- Support external audit requirements.
- Drive the automation reserving MI using AI tools, PowerBI reports, and Sompo’s in-house reserving platform.
What You’ll Bring
- At least 2-3 years’ experience and making good progress with actuarial exams.
- A background in General Insurance is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including an ability to build relationships with key stakeholders within the reserving team and other functions.
- The candidate must be well-organised, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Strong IT skills are required, including proficiency with the usual MS Office Products programming experience would be beneficial, including SQL and VBA.
- Power BI experience is desirable.
