DWF is currently seeking a Residual Balance Specialist to join the Finance team on a hybrid basis from our Manchester office.
This role is part of a collaborative team operating across multiple sites and international jurisdictions. The Finance Operations team is undergoing meaningful transformation to enhance the quality and efficiency of service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.
The person in this role will be responsible for managing and reconciling residual balances within the organisation’s financial systems. Key responsibilities include maintaining accuracy in financial records, identifying discrepancies, and supporting resolution processes.
This position plays an essential role in helping the team meet regulatory obligations and successfully integrate new technological platforms, ensuring readiness to support evolving business needs.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage residual balances across various accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely reconciliation in a clear and structured manner.
- Identify and investigate discrepancies in financial records, collaborating with relevant teams to resolve issues efficiently and respectfully.
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports on residual balances, offering insights and suggestions to support informed decision-making by leadership.
- Ensure all financial activities align with internal policies and external regulations, contributing to audit readiness and compliance reviews.
- Collaborate with colleagues across finance, audit, and other departments to support smooth financial operations and accurate reporting.
- Explore and implement opportunities for process improvements in residual balance management, promoting consistency, clarity, and effectiveness.
What will help you succeed in this role?
Essential
- Experience in transactional finance, with familiarity in reviewing and interpreting sub-ledger data.
- Able to engage constructively with colleagues across different teams and levels, demonstrating a proactive and adaptable approach.
- Confident using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level, including functions that support data organisation and analysis.
- Background in high-volume environments or shared services, with an understanding of collaborative and process-driven workflows.
- Well-organised and able to manage time effectively to meet agreed targets and deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience working in a legal or law firm environment, with awareness of SRA Accounts Rules.
- Familiarity with high-volume operations or shared services teams, including cross-functional collaboration.
- Comfortable using financial and matter management systems such as 3E, DMS, VF, or ShareDo or similar
- Background in transactional finance roles, including legal cashiering or similar responsibilities.
