An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 5 healthcare science respiratory practitioner/nurse to join the Respiratory Physiology team in Ysbyty Gwynedd. This will be a permanent position.

The successful candidate will support the service in providing diagnostic tests to the general public as outpatients and also those who are ward based. The department also supports patients in the community who require breathing devices to support their conditions. Experience within Respiratory Physiology is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • Performmaintenance,calibrateandassessqualitycontrolofequipmentwithin areas of assessed competence.
  • Performlungfunctiontestingwithinpatientsandoutpatientsunsupervised after assessed for competence.
  • AssistSeniorPhysiologistsinmorespecialisttestsinaccordancewith international standards and CPAP/NIV assessment and provision.
  • Demonstratecontinuousprofessionaldevelopmentbyworkingtowards relevant professional qualifications and registration as required by the department guided by the departmental lead.
  • Maintainaccuratepatientinformation systems.
  • Undertake administration duties e.g. answering telephone queries, dealing withappointmentsandorderingconsumablesunderappropriatesupervision.
  • Have a desire and motivation to learn and help the development of the departmentandothermembersofstaffaswellasUniversitystudentswhich may be undertaking research in coordination with the Lead Respiratory Physiologist.

Working for our organisation

The respiratory physiology team is a team of healthcare science practitioners, respiratory physiotherapist and supported by a whole time administrator. The department is very dynamic and we support over 3000 patients in the community on various devices for sleep disordered breathing. All aspects of lung function testing is carried out to provide the referring consultants with results to act upon and treat patients with lung disorders. We support each other and work well as a team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Qualifications
  • Degree in Clinical Physiology or Science related subject or equivalent
  • Clinical experience in Respiratory Medicine

Desirable criteria

  • Clinical experience within Respiratory medicine
  • Knowledge of respiratory conditions

  • BSc in Physiology
  • Experience working with patients with respiratory conditions

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of performing physiological tests
