Route Operations Manager within our Rail Plant team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering projects that make a real difference.
In this key position, you’ll be responsible for coordinating all aspects of Route OTM (On-Track Machine) delivery. This includes managing personnel, liaising with customers, and resolving operational issues to ensure the successful and efficient completion of works across designated routes.
While the ideal base for this role is our Hither Green depot, we’re open to candidates located across the Sussex and Wessex regions. Regular travel will be required, and attendance at key meetings in Hither Green is expected.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities'
- Responsible and accountable for safe Route delivery in accordance with customer requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring all plant within the designated route is kept to high standards.
- Ensure that all members of the on track machine crew are fit for duty when booking on.
- Working closely with the Engineering team to ensure all plant is maintained to exceptional standards
- Communicate on a weekly basis with machine crews to ensure all safety, performance and operational issues are briefed and understood.
- Manage all HR issues within your area to include attendance and disciplinary issues.
- Working with the planning function to ensure that you are maximising area driver resources in line with customer and budgetary requirements.
- Manage the recruitment and implementation of training plans for new staff.
- Working with the training function to ensure all staff has up to date competence.
- Expert in Accident/incident investigation and management.
- Ensure that all staff are compliant and aware of their health and safety responsibilities within the work place.
- Working closely with the Business Unit Manager to implement and develop customer service improvement plans within your area.
- Working with the Business Unit Manager to implement robust plans to control and reduce cost where necessary.
Who we're looking for
The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential
- A strong understanding of railway practices
- Hold, or willing to work towards recognised industry qualifications including PTS, TOLO, DP, COSS and A1 assessor
- Demonstrable man management experience within rail or similar industry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Have experience of working closely within a unionised environment
- Experience with conflict management
- Be able to work well within a pressurised environment
- Computer literate
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills
The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable
- Have a good awareness of railway health and safety requirements, particularly as they relate to train operations.
- Project management experience
