The role
As a
Safety Case Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a critical role in support the production, maintenance and development of Safety Cases across a variety of Weaponary Systems.
Day-to-day, you’ll develop comprehensive Safety Justifications to support operations impacting Nuclear and Explosive Safety at RNAD Coulport, ensuring alignment with MOD Authorisation Conditions, regulatory frameworks, and statutory legislation.
- Deliver high-quality outputs within defined cost, time, and quality parameters, adhering to company standards and project requirements.
- Perform Peer Reviews, Technical Assessments, and Verifications of safety documentation to ensure robust justifications, including independent reviews of materials from other departments when required.
- Lead Fault Identification studies (e.g., HAZOP/HAZID) and facilitates the development of safety arguments in line with site-specific guidance.
- Conduct ALARP workshops and optioneering studies to evaluate and reduce operational risks, while representing the department at nuclear safety committees and managing associated technical databases.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at RNAD Coulport, Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute site.
Essential Experience Of The Safety Case Engineer
- Proven experience in applying Safety Case methodologies within high-hazard or regulated environments.
- The ability to assess and justify engineering activities from a safety perspective.
- Experience of developing and reviewing technical documentation and risk-based decision-making.
- Competence in implementing Safe Systems of Work and conducting Risk Assessments, alongside a working knowledge of planning processes to support project delivery.
Qualifications For The Safety Case Engineer
- A minimum of HNC level qualification however, we value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience then we would like to hear from you.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
