Description

Job title: Sanctions Officer

Base Location: London – Can be home based with 1 day a month travel to the office.

Due to our global growth at Howden the Broking Compliance function is looking to bring on a Sanctions Officer to support on UK and global work. Initially the opportunity is an 12 month fixed term contract so I’d like to see profiles who are immediately available or at the latest a 1 month notice period.

Why should you apply?

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down disappointed head-hunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work/life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

What is this role?

In the Central Sanctions team you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and overseeing a sanctions and screening framework that supports and enables Howden UK Broking to meet applicable sanctions and screening requirements, including screening for PEPs and adverse media.

What will you be doing?

  • Review and approval of sanctions and financial crime matches.
  • Review of sanctions matters escalated to second line due to exposure to high risk jurisdictions or industries.
  • Advice to first line teams in relation to sanctions requirements, expectations and scenarios where a licence may be required to conduct business.
  • Advice, guidance and support to ensure that sanctions and screening expectations are considered and incorporated into any new business activities, initiatives, teams, systems or acquisitions.
  • Development and delivery of a training and understanding programme in respect of sanctions and screening related requirements across Howden UK Broking.
  • Support the batch screening of clients / counterparties from acquisitions.
  • Monitor the activities of, deliver training to and support outsourced service providers such as WNS, to enhance delivery of service to the business.
  • Support and assist with the on on-going assessment of screening system capability, suitability and output.
  • Support the monitoring of adherence to screening expectations by the businesses.
  • Monitor and liaise with the businesses where potential sanctions matches are not being cleared in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the collation and production of Management Information in respect of sanctions and screening.
  • Assist with the review of Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) submissions.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum two years’ experience of the UK financial sanctions regime working within a second line compliance function in a UK-based General Insurance broker.
  • Knowledge of UK government, OFAC, UN, EU and FCA requirements in respect of sanctions and financial crime.
  • Experience of using ComplyAdvantage desirable.
  • Experience of providing real time support and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • General awareness of FCA requirements relevant to GI brokers.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of insurance, principles, products and services

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define.

Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.

And we know that separate home and work lives don't really exist. If you're happy and healthy at home, you're more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work – and vice versa. That's why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.
