Brief Description

As a Project Manager within the Kent Route Infrastructure Services Delivery (ISD) Team, you will play a key role in delivering Performance and Resilience (P&R) projects that directly contribute to the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the railway network. You will be responsible for managing projects through all stages of the lifecycle—from concept and planning through to delivery and close-out—ensuring that each initiative meets its objectives in a safe, inclusive, and environmentally responsible manner.

You will also support the successful delivery of the wider ISD P&R portfolio, working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners to drive continuous improvement and deliver meaningful outcomes for passengers, freight users, and the communities we serve.

About The Role (External)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of individual projects or project components, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This includes adherence to the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), Network Rail standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Provide a professional and consistent project management service, using performance indicators and reporting tools to monitor progress and support decision-making.
  • Manage the development and implementation of change projects, ensuring compliance with internal governance and industry best practices.
  • Identify, assess, and manage tactical risks and changes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring proactive mitigation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Champion a safe and inclusive working environment, supporting health, safety, and wellbeing across all project activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Investment Competence Framework, maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project management plans, ensuring clarity of scope, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Take ownership of project budgets, ensuring financial targets are met and resources are used efficiently.
  • Provide regular, transparent progress updates to the Programme Manager, including reporting on risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Promote the use of efficiency improvement methods, encouraging innovation and smarter ways of working.
  • Capture and share lessons learned, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement across the team and wider organisation.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, ideally within infrastructure, engineering, or transport sectors.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience in project safety management, with a commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments.
  • Working knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Understanding of commercial and financial processes, including budget management and cost control.


Desirable Qualifications & Attributes

  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management (APM) or a similar professional body.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt or equivalent process improvement certification.


What Could Set You Apart

  • Hands-on experience in railway operations, such as maintenance, planning, or control.
  • Proven success in deploying technology solutions within the rail or transport sector.


Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, with the ability to create and maintain insightful reports that support data-driven decision-making.
