The Service & Team:
Cornwall Council’s Children and Family Services are committed to ensuring every child and young person receives the support they need to thrive. The Statutory SEND Service plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred support for children and young people with EHC plans.
The Role
The role holder will provide a professional service to identify and assess the needs of children where there is concern in relation to school attendance, behaviour, education outcomes and their general welfare. To ensure that schools, children and parents/carers have relevant information around engagement with education and attendance. Responsibilities include working with vulnerable groups such as pupils excluded from or at risk of exclusion from school.
This role will monitor the attendance in mainstream, specialist settings and other education settings and will report to managers regarding the levels of attendance.
The successful candidate will innovate, develop, improve and implement robust systems and procedures, including audit and assessment tools to identify, monitor and track attendance patterns and trends within SEND as directed by your manager.
Support meetings are carried out on a regular basis with schools allocated and contribute towards development of policies and protocols relating to attendance, with a focus on pupils who are persistently absent and severely absent.
Liaison with other teams and services will be regular, and will contribute to policy and procedural development and delivery including but not limited to Fair Access, School Attendance, Elective Home Education, Children Missing Education, Managed Moves, Exclusions, Alternative Provision, EOTAS and Reduced Timetables.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Experience in a relevant education, health or social care setting.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Confidence in developing effective working relationships across a range of departments.
- Knowledge of the SEND code of Practice (0-25), and associated regulations.
