Senior Accountant – Finance & Systems Improvement

Location: Flexible / Hybrid

A growing financial services firm is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its finance operations while driving improvements in financial systems and data processes. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys combining accounting expertise with technology-led solutions.

The successful candidate will work across finance, technology, and operational teams to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting and to support initiatives that make finance workflows more efficient and transparent.

Role Overview

This position is part of the finance operations team and focuses on:

Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting across multiple business lines
Supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
Leading or contributing to projects to optimise financial systems and workflows
Collaborating with IT and business partners to implement system improvements and enhancements

You will be expected to provide insight into the finance data, resolve accounting discrepancies, and ensure that financial systems are reliable and meet business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Drive improvements in finance processes and systems, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency
Monitor data quality and system performance, troubleshooting issues and supporting resolutions
Work closely with internal teams to reconcile accounts, validate reporting outputs, and investigate discrepancies
Manage and document system changes, updates, and testing processes
Partner with IT and external vendors on system upgrades and new technology implementations
Support finance and business stakeholders with accurate and timely financial information
Maintain clear process documentation and adhere to regulatory and compliance standards

Skills & Experience

Fully qualified accountant or equivalent experience
Strong knowledge of insurance or financial services accounting, including balance sheet, P&L, cashflow, and reserves

Demonstrated experience delivering projects, particularly those related to system implementations or improvements

Familiarity with financial systems, general ledgers, reporting tools, and data analytics platforms

Ability to analyse large and complex datasets with tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, or workflow automation tools

Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise multiple tasks

Confident working independently and collaboratively across teams

Effective communicator, able to explain complex financial or technical issues to stakeholders

Strong organisational skills and commitment to ownership of work
