Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Administrator in our Urgent Suspected Cancer team within the Patient Services Centre based at Southampton General Hospital. As part of this role you will support the team leader in managing patients who have been referred in on 28 day FDS pathway (Faster Diagnostic Service) . We are committed to ensuring that these patients are within a 7-10 day timeframe to support the Trust delivery of diagnosis at day 28 of the patient pathway in line with the National Cancer targets.
We are compassionate and respectful when speaking to our patients as we recognise that this is particularly difficult time. We are looking for the ideal candidates to be empathetic and the ability to have some difficult conversations.
If you are resilient and pro active and with the ability to work in a fast past environment able to be reactive to urgent requests from our stakeholders and work to extremely tight deadlines. You will need to communicate effectively with care groups to make them aware of any capacity issues or breaching patients, attend weekly meetings and follow the escalation route as necessary. This will involve close attention to detail and the ability to assimilate information quickly.
The ideal candidates should have good knowledge of Cancer Care fundamentals and the 28FDS pathway

- Proven experience in managing conflicting priorities and working to strict deadlines.
- A friendly and approachable manner with the ability to be polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic.
- Experience and understanding of spreadsheets and reporting because you will be expected to produce regular reports and updates for your line manager.
- Knowledge of RTT and cancer patient pathways.
- Able to commit to shifts within our opening hours of 0700-1800 Mon - Fri

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Good standard of secondary education with literacy and numeracy skills demonstrable to GSCE pass level or equivalent standard.
- Either- Level 3 qualification in administration/ customer service or equivalent experience Or- Vocational Level 2 qualification in administration/customer service or an equivalent level of experience. And Experience as an administrator or secretary in an organisation with a customer focused environment And Able to use judgement to make decisions in order to solve problems/enquiries some of which are non-routine and not straight
- RSA 2 word processing/typing or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office.
- Administrative and organisational experience
- Knowledge and experience of secretarial or administrative procedures
- Experience as an administrator or secretary in an organisation with a customer focused environment
Desirable criteria
- Courses / further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development.
- Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience.
