At ALS in Hawarden, we’re proud to be at the forefront of environmental testing in the region. We’re now looking for a
dedicated Senior Analyst to join our team and support vital monitoring of the River Dee, a key waterway for both local communities and wildlife.
The role offers excellent flexibility with a 5-hour workday, giving you the ability to plan your schedule while contributing to meaningful environmental work. Due to the rotating shift pattern, this role
requires availability on weekends, bank holidays and Christmas Day, to help ensure service delivery every day of the year.
About The Position
Location: Hawarden
Contract Type: Part-Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off
Hours: 17.5 hours per week (typically 1pm–11pm, with a 5-hour working window)
Salary: From £13,071 per annum (depending on experience)
The day to day
- Performing analytical testing on river samples using both manual and automated techniques to create Dee Situation Reports.
- Responding to environmental incidents by analysing pollution-related samples.
- Participating in an on-call rota to ensure we provide continuous 24/7 service across the year.
- Helping identify new opportunities to support and grow the service offering.
- Maintaining and calibrating laboratory instruments to ensure high standards of data integrity.
The Essentials
- A genuine passion for environmental protection and water quality.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Confidence in following set procedures and delivering accurate results under time pressure.
- Experience in GC-MS and HPLC analysis is highly desirable.
- A methodical and responsible approach, particularly when dealing with audits and regulatory requirements.
- Previous experience in organic analysis and hands-on work with laboratory instrumentation is advantageous.
