About Ofcom

Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day. We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV and radio.

Our culture is clear – we live by our values: Empowerment; Excellence; Collaboration; Agility and Respect. These define how we work to deliver our purpose, now and in the future. The behaviours which support these values set the path for a fully inclusive and innovative culture at Ofcom.

We focus not only on what we do, but how we do it. We pride ourselves on being an organisation of people who genuinely care about helping others.

About the team you’ll be part of

Ofcom’s Economics and Analytics Group is a dynamic team of around 120 applied microeconomists, data analysts and finance experts.

As experts in evidence, we help Ofcom by providing thought leadership, technical and sector expertise, and the economic and financial insights to shape policy and decisions.

We work across all sectors regulated by Ofcom, often going beyond traditional telecoms and broadcasting regulation. Recent work includes setting out our plans for implementation of the Online Safety Act, our proposals for regulating fixed telecoms markets, and supporting the Competition and Markets Authority in its investigation of the Vodafone/Three merger. We also actively contribute to economic debates in the communications sector through published discussion papers.

We are looking for applicants with expertise in at least one of the following specialisms:

  • Competition and regulation economics: assess markets and consumer issues, and shape developments in Ofcom’s regulated sectors.

  • Collaborate with vibrant teams of economists, data analysts, policy professionals, market researchers, technologists and lawyers on diverse and stimulating projects across a broad range of sectors.
  • Apply economic expertise and quantitative skills to address challenging questions, often leveraging cutting-edge analysis and data.
  • Make a real impact on society while achieving a healthy work-life balance.

Your Key Responsibilities – Senior Associate

As a Senior Associate, you will:

  • Provide high-quality economic analysis on a variety of projects, including identifying the key economic issues and anticipating and considering different points of view
  • Potentially be exposed to large data sets, spreadsheets and econometric models, and use a range of techniques to analyse these.
  • Produce clear, well-reasoned drafts of documents, including for publication.
  • Communicate economic issues and quantitative concepts convincingly when attending team meetings, governance meetings and meetings with our stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues on wider Ofcom projects, where necessary.
