We have been awarded the “Most Loved Workplace”! At Metro Bank, people come first – our culture is all about bringing the best out in our colleagues, and making sure everyone feels valued, respected, seen and included. We strongly believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace and to find the very best person for the job, we always look across a wide range of diverse communities.
The Senior Assurance Manager is responsible for the development, execution, and continuous improvement of Metro Bank’s financial crime, fraud, compliance and operational assurance strategy. The role provides oversight and assurance through thematic reviews, independent retesting of quality controls, and validation of the completeness and effectiveness of actions taken to close out material remediation projects.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development of the annual assurance plan, engaging with all relevant business units and control functions to ensure coverage of key risks and avoid duplication of effort. Align the plan with the bank’s future strategy, objectives, and risk appetite, ensuring that assurance activities address current priorities while also anticipating emerging risks and regulatory changes. Present the plan for formal approval by the appropriate governance body, ensuring it supports sustainable, long-term growth and value creation.
- Identify control gaps and areas for operational improvement, recommending effective, pragmatic solutions.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure all assurance activities are coordinated and non-duplicative.
- Provide actionable insight on governance, risk exposure, and control effectiveness to inform strategic decision-making.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of assurance specialists.
- Build strong relationships with executives, directors, and Internal Audit to ensure findings are understood and acted upon.
- Deliver clear, actionable reports tailored to diverse audiences (board, operational teams, external parties).
- Any other duties as required that reasonably fall within the role.
And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the ability to call out any concerns.
What You Will Need
- Extensive demonstrable experience in internal controls, assurance, audit, or risk management, ideally within a medium-to-large organisation, or at a leading consultancy firm.
- Experience in First Line.
- Demonstrated ability to balancing regulatory requirements with operational efficiency and positive customer outcomes.
- Skilled in preparing and presenting detailed documentation for executive stakeholders and regulatory reviews.
- Strong ability to develop and apply an objective, risk-based approach to recommending effective, pragmatic solutions, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and the bank’s risk appetite.
- Excellent drafting skills with a proven history of producing clear and concise material for senior executive audiences.
- Exceptional verbal communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven Leadership experience.
Our promise to you…
- We will make sure that you are well-rewarded by providing you with a competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, and a wide range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme, healthcare, life assurance, and a number of colleague discounts!
- We will give you the training to ensure you succeed in your role and plenty of internal opportunities to progress your career (around 40% of our recruitment comes from internal promotions!).
- We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible.
Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box. We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked. So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates.. Good luck!
