We are seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineer to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency, commercial awareness, ambition, and problem-solving skills. Responsibilities include ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high HSE standards. Experience in the electricity supply or generation industries preferred. The role also involves maintaining compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO55001 certifications. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
GENERAL
- Company lead on civil engineering design, standards and knowledge.
PROJECTS
- Support project initiation to develop outline electrical designs & layouts; grid connection applications; land and planning requirements; and costing.
- Write Employer’s Requirements ensuring plant / equipment meets the needs of the industry codes and specifications / standards.
- Review of contractor proposals inputting into contractor selection and contract finalisation;
- Work closely with contractors and consultants during design and construction ensuring the Employer’s requirements are met and managing any interfaces.
- Support technical due diligence of outside investors.
- Coordinate and review the detailed electrical design of contractors.
- Assisting the PM in monitoring and managing programme, budget and risks particularly during the development and design phase.
- Manage Technical Query processes to and from the contractors.
- Coordinating the review of documentation, inputting with own and company available expertise but also using the Employer’s own wider engineering resource.
- Determine appropriate civil standards for the company’s substation projects.
- During on site construction, manage design queries, variations interest to meet the Employer’s Requirements, programme and cost.
O&M
- Support asset management team on civil engineering queries related to operational assets.
- Support asset managers on warranty and snagging review.
- Support asset management team on third part proximity works assessments.

Language:Education, Work Experience & Qualifications:- A Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering
- Experience in the UK electricity generation/transmission industries, including:
- Experience of project management;
- Client-side experience of the civil aspects of generation/transmission project engineering;
- Being part of the construction management team on project(s) of over £50m capex.
- Understand and have experience of EPC and multi-contractor approaches.
Skills & Attributes:- Civil engineering background in the electricity supply industry with a good broad understanding and experience of substation and cable projects.
- Ability to understand varied technical / practical challenges as they arise to progress project delivery.
- Good understanding of:
- The commercial aspects of a civil contract (NEC / FIDIC form);
- Power engineering projects such as substations, converter stations and cable routes;
- project management, project planning and project controls;
- Quality assurance for civils projects.
- Interfaces between M&E and civils; in particular, foundations, buildings and building services, CDM considerations and operability.
- Commercially aware:
- In depth technical capability coupled with practical skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing;
- Ability to work well with project partners;
- Experience of project development, tender and FEED activities would be an advantage.
