Appointment to this post offers excellent experience of medical oncology for those wishing to pursue a career in this field. There is an active postgraduate teaching programme and all oncology trainees (or equivalent) are expected to attend. The department has a wide portfolio of clinical trials and an active clinical research programme. Post holders will work directly with one or more Consultant Oncologists and alongside other oncology specialist trainees. Experience in Medical Oncology at ST level is essential. All candidates should have full registration with the GMC and MRCP or equivalent is essential.
This full-time, 12-month fellowship will commence in August 2025 and is based at University College Hospital. Fellows will gain in-depth experience in the clinical management of breast cancer and in the delivery of clinical trials, all within a multidisciplinary setting with a strong academic and research focus.
Key responsibilities include delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals with early and metastatic breast cancer, supporting pathway optimisation by coordinating multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and contributing to the triage and management of new referrals. The postholder will play an active role in clinical trial recruitment and research activities, including audits and service evaluations that inform real-world evidence.
The fellowship also supports service resilience by providing cover during periods of staff leave and registrar rotation. Fellows are encouraged to engage in departmental education through weekly tutorials, journal clubs, and research discussions. This is an excellent opportunity for trainees or early-career oncologists with a special interest in breast cancer to develop both clinical and academic skills in a supportive, research-active environment.
