Job Overview
The Senior Clinical Leadership Educator – Human Factors (HF) and Communication Skills, is a pivotal cross site role in supporting the development and delivery of the Clinical Leadership portfolio, specifically Human Factors and Communication Skills across Frimley Health.
The post holder will work autonomously to lead, develop, and co-ordinate Human Factors and Communication Education, under the umbrella of the Clinical Education Leadership portfolio, to develop various inter-professional pre and post registration learners and staff linking in with various relevant corporate and clinical teams.
The post holder will have an excellent understanding of Human Factors, Communication Skills and Leadership through recent clinical practice, education, and current evidence-based theory or relevant expert study.
They will be required to deliver both in person and virtual education, in a variety of clinical and non-clinical education settings, on all Trust sites and within the Frimley Health ICS region. They will be required to work and teach autonomously, working towards delivery of the education portfolio.
The post holder will support the Matron for Education and the Clinical Leadership Team and any other associated work streams and or projects for the Education and Development Directorate.
Main duties of the job
To lead and co-ordinate the the delivery of the Human Factors (HF) and Communication skills education and training, under the umbrella of Clinical Leadership for the Education and Development department.
To design and deliver the Human Factors education and training to support staff inline with national guidance on PSIRF and utilising HF expertise, the SEIPS framework, current evidence and best practice, linking in with linking with and collaborating with relevant Clinical and Corporate teams
To support and develop the safe and proficient practice of clinical staff and clinical teams that underpins safe and effective patient care.
To design and deliver Communication Skills education and training to support clinical staff, managers and leaders reflecting current research and evidence.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- This role is responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of the Leadership Education Portfolio focused on Human Factors and Communication.
- Lead, innovate, develop and co-ordinate education and training provision for Human Factors education for all health care professionals utilising various education strategies including simulation.
- Develop Human Factors facilitators, develop a Human Factors educator faculty and lead the HF forum that is responsive to current clinical issues and safety issues
- Support the development and implementation of Human Factors methodology and practice in line with key FHFT strategies and workstreams and national patient safety recommendations and Human Factors science (e.g. SEIPS Framework).
- Lead and engage with specific key Human Factors workstreams, forums and or projects ensuring best practice, standards and tools are in place for clinical teams and staff
- Establish and develop links, facilitate collaboration and innovation with Clinical Leads, Clinical Directors, Patient Safety Lead, Patient Safety Teams, L&OD, Well Being, External leadership associations and Clinical Education teams to benchmark current practice and develop a strategy for education provision related to portfolio.
- Lead, design, develop, co-ordinate and deliver Communication skills teaching utilising various education approaches including simulation using evidence-based practice.Develop Communication Skills Facilitators and a faculty working towards developing a network across FHFT.
- To work collaboratively, developing good working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders (including professional and patient actors), clinical groups, forums and expert providers in Human Factors and Communication Skills.
- To work clinically 20% of contracted hours linked with one or more clinical areas / teams or departments for professional practice and or undertake clinical shadowing related to portfolio of work.
General Tasks & Responsibilities
- Function as a practicing professional and clinical practitioner in line with NMC / HCPC code of conduct.
- Provide support to relevant FHFT corporate and clinical teams, forums, and governance groups related to HF & Communication Skills workstream.
- Co-ordinate and lead inter-professional stakeholder forums related to workstream / portfolio.
- Support clinical leadership education programmes / portfolio which includes Aspiring Clinical Leader’s Programme and leadership workshops / training.
- Continue to develop clinical leadership portfolio / services in conjunction with the Education team, Matrons, Senior sisters, Ward managers and Team leaders. Mapping against current and new national guidance.
- Maintain current records and progress reports on education programmes, workstreams and or projects and or clinical education initiatives as directed
- Collaborate and innovate with TEL team to develop efficient booking processes and or digital systems to support education and training within clinical leadership portfolio
- Deputise for the Matron for Education as and when required.
- Represent the directorate at committees and meetings both in the trust and externally.
- Continue to develop services within education directorate as required by Matron, Head of Service or Deputy Director of Education
- Engage with and support departmental, directorate, trust wide education or developmental away days, workshops, and events.
- Participate in the development of leadership, clinical practice, and research in line with the Trust strategy.
- Set objectives for staff and appraise staff at least annually when indicated to do so.

- Offer professional guidance, coaching, clinical supervision, restorative supervision in order to support the development of our clinical educators, clinical leaders, teams, and staff.
- Develop expert knowledge in well-being theory and practice, teams and system resilience, with the ability to relate to clinical experience to inform educational opportunities developing staff.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the Heads of Service, Matrons for Clinical Education, Patient Safety Team, Education team, Ward managers / team leaders, matrons, service users, stakeholders and with SMEs facilitating effective service provision and initiatives.

TEACHING AND LEARNING
- To use own initiative to design, develop and deliver inter-professional education ensuring learning materials, activities and resources are current, appropriate and facilitate an interactive learner centred style.
- Competent in various teaching strategies, including simulation, face to face and virtual, online education and able to use innovative approaches to learning.
- To scope, design, develop, manage effective Communication and Human Factors TEL modules where appropriate supported by the TEL team, working alongside subject specialist and external providers
- Ensure teaching environments are conducive to learning and provided for all learners throughout all education offerings, courses and or programmes.
- Identify learning opportunities from clinical care, complaints, quality, or patient safety reports and panels, from relevant forums and/or from staff or patient experience, mapping against national guidance.
- Foster a learning culture whereby ward and departmental areas and corporate teams (patient safety etc) are provided with opportunities to develop human factors approaches and communication skills.
- Ensure effective communication regarding advertisement and recruitment onto the clinical leadership education programmes, human factors training and communication courses.
- To provide mentorship, coaching or supervisory support to clinical leadership, human factors and communication skills course participants and / or course facilitators.
- To ensure training records and databases are accurate, contemporaneous, monitoring completion and attrition for leadership programmes.
- Produce training statistics, activity reports and summary reports as required for clinical leadership or for clinical education scoping work.
- Review, audit and evaluate clinical leadership education programmes, human factors and communication course offerings when requested / required to do so, present findings and implement plans of action.
- To assist / support in the delivery of clinical educational programmes when required to do so to meet service delivery of Clinical Education Directorate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC / NMC Registered
- BSc (Hons) Degree.
- PGCE in higher education
- Advanced Communication Skills Trainer or equivalent relevant experience or working towards trainer status
- ENB 997/998, mentor preparation or equivalent education course in facilitating learning and or teaching.
Desirable criteria
- Human Factors Facilitator Training Course or equivalent
- Recognised CHFG course / qualification (or equivalent qualification)
Experienee
Essential criteria
- 2 years working within clinical education.
- 3 years post registration clinical experience with a clinical leadership role undertaken within the last 18 months.
- Experience of designing and delivering Human Factors, Communication and Clinical Leadership education and training
Desirable criteria
- Led trust wide HF / Patient Safety Improvement Projects
- Knowledge or experiences in digital educational support software / systems
