The department is looking to employ an individual who is enthusiastic and highly motivated, with a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will join a friendly department of accredited clinical perfusion scientists, a mixture of full and part time staff. Hours are 37.5 hrs/wk, based on a 4-day flexible rota plus on-call commitment.
You will be joining a busy collaborative department of experienced staff, who deliver an excellent perfusion service to our patients, including clinical teaching/training, simulation and safety skills, cell salvage, intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation, coagulation monitoring and occasional ECMO. Experience of record keeping, clinical audit, risk management, NHS policies, procedures, and development of departmental protocols is essential.
As an experienced and autonomous practitioner, the post holder must lead by example and act as a role model, providing a clinical and professional perfusion service to the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will participate fully in the development of the team, being able to organise facilities and staff onsite, to enable the clinical group to meet its contractual and professional targets.
Lancashire Cardiac Centre is a modern, purpose-built unit, which opened in 2005. The Cardiothoracic Centre has 4 cardiothoracic theatres and 20 CITU beds. The unit performs 1000-1200 adult cardiac cases per annum. We currently have a vacancy for a band 8a Accredited Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist.
Our unit is set within the grounds of Blackpool Victoria Teaching Hospitals, with the ‘Sunny Fylde Coast’ as backdrop. We are situated less than an hour from the Cumbrian hills, the glorious Lake District and both Manchester and Liverpool cities. With the M6 on our doorstep we have excellent transport links both locally and nationally.
The successful applicant will have the chance to experience a wide range of perfusion techniques and become involved in a number of new and progressive surgeries including: thru-port valve surgery, minimal access, aortic repair/reconstruction, and optimised cardiopulmonary bypass. In addition, associated research possibilities exist alongside these clinical opportunities.
