Brief Description
Who are we looking for? We’re looking for a seasoned Senior Commercial Manager with a strong background in contract and commercial management, ideally within the rail, infrastructure, or construction sectors. You’ll bring proven experience in leading commercial strategy, managing high-value contracts, and ensuring robust financial governance across complex projects. The ideal candidate will be confident working with NEC contracts, skilled in stakeholder engagement, and committed to driving value for money across the supply chain. This is a key leadership role where strategic thinking and attention to detail are essential.

You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative Commercial & Procurement team that plays a key role in keeping Britain’s railways running efficiently and safely. We work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the business to deliver value for money, ensure compliance, and support strategic objectives. It’s a fast-paced and dynamic environment where your ideas are valued, and professional development is encouraged.
What does the average day look like? In this role, you’ll take the lead on shaping and implementing effective commercial strategies across projects, ensuring strong cost management and driving value throughout the lifecycle. You'll oversee framework agreements and contractor performance, contribute to procurement, and proactively manage estimating, risk and value. By negotiating contract terms and managing reporting, you’ll ensure transparency and timely action on any variances. You’ll lead and support a high-performing commercial team, offer expert guidance on contract changes, and help resolve disputes when they arise. Ensuring compliance, closing out final accounts, and analysing project costs to support continuous improvement will also be key. As a role model, you’ll contribute to developing your team while supporting procurement activities from start to finish.
Essential Criteria
- Knowledge of railway and construction industry conditions of contract
- Educated to degree level or equivalent and professional qualification.
- Experienced negotiator
- 3 years’ relevant railway and/or construction contract management experience

Desirable Criteria
- Experience of resolution of construction contract disputes
- Knowledge of railway commercial contract management
- Experience of managing and developing a team of staff
- Good communication skills both written and oral
- Experience of contractors accounts
