Senior Communications Officer

Location: Outer London (Hybrid – 1–2 days in the office per week)

Salary: £40,000-£50,000 (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-time, 1-year fixed term contract with the possibility of extension

We’re looking for an ambitious, creative, and purpose-driven Senior Communications Officer to develop and deliver a comprehensive communications campaign for key climate change priorities.

This is your chance to make a tangible difference by creating and delivering clear, targeted communications that informs, inspires and involves residents to drive behaviour change and awareness.

This team member will be a part of our agile and values-led Communications Team and work closely with the Climate Change Team within an outer London local authority. You’ll take ownership of communications planning and delivery to drive behaviour change for key initiatives in the Climate Change portfolio.

You’ll use proven models like OASIS or ROSIE to guide strategy and apply insight, behavioural science and collaboration to maximise impact. You’ll also manage communications resources effectively – including time, budgets, and agency or in-house support – ensuring best value and high impact.

You will:

• Plan and deliver integrated, insight-led, behaviour change communications for key climate change and sustainability council priorities.
• Use structured models like OASIS to guide communications strategy, from objectives to evaluation.
• Need strong knowledge of accessible communications.
• Conceptualise, manage and deliver communications.
• Manage resources efficiently including budget and timelines.
• Work closely with the Head of Communications and contribute to the leadership and development of the wider communications team.
• Build strong partnerships with services and communities to co-create impactful content and messages.
• Need experience of measuring communications, tracking performance, analysing results to optimise your approach.

What you'll bring:

• Significant experience leading or supporting communications or marketing campaigns.
• Experience using structured campaign planning tools (e.g. OASIS, ROSIE, etc.).
• Proven ability to manage budgets, and multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong storytelling and content creation skills across multiple channels.
• A passion for social good and an understanding of the public sector, climate change and sustainability.
• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and across teams.
• Experience using behavioural science methods and techniques in previous campaigns.
