This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working within the Community Children’s Nursing (CCN) Service based at Northampton General Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of a caseload of children/young people aged 0-18 years assessing, planning and delivering evidence-based nursing care in the community setting across West Northants.
You will be working collaboratively with the child/young person, their parents/carers and the multi professional team around the family (Including interagency working). Use of enhanced communication skills to promote good working relationships are required in order to facilitate the best outcomes possible for the child/young person.
You will be undertaking lone working and be expected to undertake risk assessments and adhere to local policy and procedures.
You will deputise for the Lead Nurse in her absence, regularly provide management in the day to day running of the service and provide supervision to junior members of the team, and mentorship to students in training.
Our core service hours are 08.00-18.00 Monday – Friday, working contracted hours as a shift pattern of early shifts – 08.00-16.00 and late shifts 10.00-18.00 across the working week.
The role requires the ability to work flexibly across a 7 day service, and may include unsocial hours and on call, on occasion when required for End of Life care.

- To carry out a range of clinical skills e.g. enteral feeding, administration of intravenous therapies, administration of injections, wound care, CVAD competencies in the community setting
- To provide clinical expertise by setting standards in the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of patient’s clinical care needs using agreed protocols,
- To provide clinical expertise in providing education and support for the children and families in the community setting.
- To be able to support patients, families and colleagues in highly distressing or emotional circumstances.
- To be able to analyse and interpret presenting data and clinical presentation in order to meet the complex needs of the patient, providing holistic care to the child and family
and ensuring that timely referrals are made to other services as necessary.

- To ensure professional skilled nursing care is provided to patients within the community/home setting and adapted to meet individual needs.

- Will be required to communicate with a range of professional and non-professional individuals regarding highly sensitive information and develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or in difficult situations.
