Job Description The Senior Controls Consultant plays a critical role in assessing and validating the effectiveness of Sage’s internal controls and ensuring alignment to industry best practice and regulatory requirements. Act as a key partner to management and process owners, they drive the development of robust control processes, monitor control performance, and provide strategic recommendations to address gaps and enhance operational resilience. The Senior Controls Consultant helps deliver the internal controls testing programme relating to operational, compliance, strategic and financial controls.

This is a hybrid role, based out of our London office 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities What will I be doing?

Lead internal controls testing to ensure they adequately mitigate key risks and assist in providing recommendations for improvements where needed.

Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, introducing efficiencies and new practices.

Help prepare comprehensive reports and dashboards for senior management, summarizing control effectiveness, identified risks, and remediation progress.

Drive best practices and consistency in control standards.

Partner with business leaders, process owners, and compliance teams to ensure understanding and adoption of internal control requirements.

Collaborate with other “3 Lines of Defence” functions during control evaluations and ensure timely remediation findings.

Assist in cross-functional initiatives to improve governance and operational efficiency.

Lead incident investigations and reporting, including the identification of root causes.

Coach, train, and provide guidance to business stakeholders to promote best practices in effective internal controls.

Stay current with industry best practices, technical developments, and evolving regulations that impact internal controls and risk management frameworks.

Support the business in adapting to new regulatory requirements, process changes, and evolving best practices within the internal control landscape.

What we are looking for:

Experience and understanding of the design and delivery of Controls Frameworks, policies, and processes.

Business acumen and ability to understand the full risk and controls landscape.

Understanding of the global regulatory framework, including the UK Corporate Governance Code.

Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels within the company, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Results-driven, with a proven track record of high-quality delivery under pressure, and in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Self-starter, able to work on your own initiative, and lead a team to deliver projects with high quality and to deadlines.

Strong project management and organisational skills to manage multiple priorities.

Willingness and ability to undertake occasional travel.

Professional certifications (e.g., CISA, CRISC, or equivalent financial or internal audit qualification) would be a plus.

Technical / Professional Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in internal controls or audit.
  • Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley).
  • Broad understanding of the applicable legal and regulatory environment in which Sage operates is ideal.
  • Awareness of industry developments and regulatory changes related to risk management and internal controls.
