Position Overview
The
Senior Director, Direct Procurement leads the global sourcing strategy and supplier relationship management for various categories within the direct materials Procurement space (e.g. contract manufacturing). This GPSM leadership level role is accountable for delivering enterprise-wide value through the development and execution of long-term sourcing strategies that align with corporate objectives, drive innovation, and ensure supply continuity.
This leader partners closely with R&D, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to influence product development, optimize total cost of ownership, and accelerate time-to-market through strategic supplier collaboration. The Senior Director is responsible for building a resilient and agile supply base, mitigating risk, and driving continuous improvement in quality, service, scalability, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Setting the strategic vision for the needed direct materials categories and translating it into actionable sourcing roadmaps (e.g. contract manufacturing).
- Leading high-impact negotiations, develop & nurture supplier partnerships to unlock innovation and competitive advantage while driving cost reduction projects that will help Insulet achieve >70% gross margin.
- Driving cross-functional alignment and executive stakeholder engagement to ensure sourcing strategies support business/capacity growth and operational excellence.
- Championing digital procurement tools, data analytics, and market intelligence to enhance decision-making and performance tracking.
- Developing and mentoring a high-performing and global team of sourcing professionals to build future leadership capability that is center-led and locally executed.
- Collaborate with Insulet’s Sustainability and Engineering teams to achieve the company’s goals for sustainability improvements, utilizing materials that are eco-conscious.
- Improve should-cost modeling capabilities to Insulet for key elements of component spend.
- Support the building and execution of Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) practices within the organization.
- Remain current with market trends through relationships with vendors and market experts; leading the team to identify and communicate new technology opportunities and solutions to Company’s key problems in various categories.
- Perform other duties and lead projects as required.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain or engineering-related discipline; Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading a procurement team in sourcing, negotiating, contracting, supplier management and project management preferred. Extensive experience in Strategic Procurement preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute global sourcing strategies that deliver measurable business value, including cost optimization, innovation enablement, risk mitigation, and supply assurance.
- Prior experience in leading global strategic sourcing and supplier management teams.
- Strong technical aptitude relating contract manufacturing and high-volume manufacturing is required.
- Understanding of the capabilities, materials, supplier capabilities and industry trends.
- Success in selecting suppliers and negotiating contracts that have delivered robust supply chain solutions.
- Demonstrated track record of driving measurable cost savings on an annual basis.
- Experience in successfully using benchmarking and cost analysis tools to deliver negotiation outcomes.
- Must possess the social intelligence to influence and lead at the most senior levels within the organization.
- Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Medical device or manufacturing experience preferred.

Additional Information
- The position will be hybrid at either our London offics for the first year. The preferred location thereafter is Acton, MA.
- Travel is estimated at 50% for the first year but will flex depending on business need.
