Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.
Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.
As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.
As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Senior Drivetrain Modelling and Simulations Engineer to lead the development of sophisticated plant models of electrical (e-motors, power electronics, batteries, etc) and mechanical (gearboxes, propellers, clutches, etc) components, as part of a Digital Twin approach that optimises the electric drivetrain performance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the development of plant models for electrical (e-motors, power electronics, batteries, etc) and mechanical (gearboxes, propellers, clutches, etc) components in model-based simulation environment (Matlab, Simulink, Simscape).
- Optimise design parameters by simulating (dynamically and statically) project requirements (flight cycles, dynamic performance, abnormal conditions, etc)
- Validate models by designing test methods and analysing test data to correlate statistically the simulation results.
- Support software verification activities by providing models and harnesses for Model-in-the-loop (MIL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to the definition of best practices in model-based simulation, data analysis and automation.
- Generate simulation analysis reports and technical presentations to communicate progress and findings.
- Lead technical discussions with customers.
- Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to synchronize cross-functional development efforts and ensure project alignment.
- Maintain simulation models and results using the Evolito configuration management process.
- Actively support process improvement initiatives to enhance team productivity and product quality.
Skills and experience required:
- Degree in electrical/mechanical/mechatronics engineering or similar.
- Proven experience solving complex technical problems using simulation modelling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape.
- Excellent understanding of the electric drivetrain components (PMSMs, Gearboxes, Inverters, Batteries) and ability to model them.
- Good understanding of control and optimisation theories (PID controllers, data fitting, optimisation algorithms)
- Experience with data analysis and correlation using Matlab or Python scripts.
- Experience with HIL environments (dSpace, SpeedGoat, etc), is desirable.
- Awareness of the engineering design process (preferably within an aerospace environment)
- Instinctive problem-solving skills coupled with a sound analytical approach.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
