The Education and Development Directorate (2025) is responsible for delivering education, training, and staff development across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT), supporting all staff in their roles and contributing to the effective delivery of healthcare services.
This Senior Educator for Management and Leadership is a pivotal cross site role, responsible for supporting the design and delivery of management and leadership education and training.
The successful candidate will be a skilled educator and facilitator who has experience of delivering education to multi-professional NHS staff, both patient and non-patient facing staff and demonstrates a clear understanding of the challenges facing managers and leaders within our system.
They may be a senior educator with teaching expertise of management and leadership theory and practice, or an OD practitioner with current healthcare experience; or a clinical leader with a Level 7 teaching qualification
The post holder will be required to teach both in-person and virtually, across Trust sites and regionally.
This role supports the Trust’s strategic ambition to develop compassionate, inclusive, and effective leaders in line with the new and emerging national Management and Leadership Capability Framework, and associated leadership competencies. The objective is to enable all healthcare managers to access high-quality education, training, coaching, and support in their professional development.
Main duties of the job
Work autonomously to lead, design, develop, and deliver high-quality education and training that supports both patient-facing and non-patient-facing staff.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver key individual, team and directorate objectives.
Apply expertise, and innovation to aid the design and delivery of impactful and meaningful training that adds value for staff, teams and managers.
Use research based knowledge to support the development of managers, align education to national guidance, reflecting strategic objectives.
Teach evidence based management and leadership theories and support managers in developing associated skills to support them in their roles, their teams.
Embed current and emerging national guidance on healthcare management and leadership including the new and emerging national Management and Leadership Capability Framework, and associated leadership competencies.
Work collaboratively, engaging with managers and stake-holders , building effective relationships, utilising advanced communication, coaching and influencing skills.
Evaluate and critically analyse the effectiveness of management and leadership education.
Support the Matron for Education, Deputy Director of Education in the delivery of the Trust’s management and leadership training portfolio, and will support on clinical leadership programmes, communication skills training, appraisal training.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the innovation and design of education and training, managing the coordination and delivery of Trust-wide management and leadership education programmes.
This includes, but is not limited to, communication skills training, appraisal training, and other development initiatives aligned to the national Management and Leadership Framework and its associated competency requirements, The NHS ‘Expectations of Line Managers’, the NHS People Promise and People Plan ,and the new NHS 10 year plan.
These programmes will be delivered to all NHS staff across the organisation, encompassing both patient-facing and non–patient-facing roles.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) Degree as a minimum
- PGCE (Lv7) in higher education or equivalent training or education
- Registered Health Care Practitioner NMC / HCPC or qualified OD / CMI / CIPD practitioner
- Advanced Communication Skills Trainer or equivalent relevant experience or working towards trainer status.
- Coaching course / qualification or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Education or equivalent CIPD relevant level qualification
- CMI ( >Level 6) Qualification
- Coaching ILM certification (>level 5)
- Restorative clinical supervision training / qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of delivering compassionate management and leadership education and training
- Experience of delivering inclusive leadership training, specifically with awareness of the EDI agenda
- Education / training design and delivery experience
- Experience of delivery education / training to both patient facing and non patient facing ( non clinical / corporate / operation / support services)
- Recent working in an acute NHS Trust / large healthcare organisation
- Significant experience in a Management and Leadership Role with real life practice experience ( HCPC / NMC / OD)
- Recent experience of mapping and embedding national education guidance and polices and evaluating impact
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with HR teams / People Promise teams / OD teams
- Knowledge, awareness and or experience of operational management within NHS and be able to teach education the subject and share learning re complex healthcare systems
- Experience in designing advanced leadership and communication courses
- Experience of interpreting / analysing staff surveys / data in relation to leadership and management approaches and organizational culture
- Experience of virtual education design and delivery (teaching)
- Experience of supporting staff / training and developing Managers knowledge and skills in supporting staff with Well Being
- Experience of delivering EDI education and training to support compassionate and inclusive leadership approaches
- Experience of facilitating action learning sets
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of relevant local and national management related to the policies and procedures regarding managing staff / teams (HR, recruitment / sickness etc ) to support delivery of management / leadership education
- Knowledge of the new national NHS England Management and Leadership Coe and Framework
- Knowledge of Managing performance issues and effective performance and capability conversations
- Knowledge of appraisals, and how to develop skills based Appraisal Training
- Understands clinical, operational and strategic management
- Ability to establish strong working collaborative relationships
- Ability to design, prepare, deliver / facilitate and evaluate innovative teaching resources, education materials and activities.
- Proficient teaching and facilitation skills
- Influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
