Senior Protection & Control Engineer

Location: Remote (UK-wide)

Salary: Up to £75,000 (dependent on experience)

Employment Type: Permanent

Turner Lovell are working with a leading UK utility infrastructure contractor that is setting up an in-house Protection & Control design team. This senior role would suit an experienced P&C Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of design work, being a technical go-to on projects, and help mentor junior engineers as the team grows.

You’ll be working on HV and EHV substation projects across the UK (33kV-400kV), supporting long-term frameworks that include new substations, network upgrades, and renewable connections.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver Protection & Control design packages from concept through to construction, including AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and protection settings.
Produce and check P&C designs to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and constructability.
Support design assurance activities, including checking and reviewing designs produced by junior engineers and external parties.

Coordinate with HV plant, civil, cabling, and project delivery teams to ensure integrated design solutions.

Interface with clients and stakeholders on technical matters, contributing to design reviews and project meetings.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
UK experience delivering Protection & Control designs for HV and EHV substations up to 400kV.
Experience with National Grid standards and UK protection requirements.
Experience using protection coordination and modelling software (e.g. ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
Ability to manage multiple design packages concurrently and mentor junior engineers.
Strong communication skills with experience engaging clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
