Job Description
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Electro-Mechanical Test Lead, you will join our South Coast team to support our activities within the Defence sector. Join ALTEN Ltd in leading the test and assurance strategy for some of the UK’s most complex marine and defence technology platforms. Working on next-generation electro-mechanical systems deployed in harsh environments, you’ll guide projects from design through to verified delivery. If you're an expert in test governance, quality assurance, and lifecycle delivery, this is your chance to influence high-stakes engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead test planning, execution and reporting across electrical, mechanical, EMC, and environmental testing for multiple defence-grade systems.
- Provide test and quality governance, supporting technology leads in identifying verification points, test event criteria, and ensuring compliance through each lifecycle stage.
- Act as the Quality Assurance lead, ensuring all design and testing documentation meets corporate and industry standards.
- Coordinate and deliver test activities across multiple projects and project managers, managing risks, reporting issues, and ensuring alignment with delivery milestones.
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of test documentation for both internal and external stakeholders, aligned with DID (Data Item Description) milestones.
- Ensure all project QA gates and customer test requirements are satisfied to support on-time project acceptance.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in electrical/mechanical testing, ideally within defence, marine, aerospace or similar regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of test analysis, test specification writing, and verification & validation methodologies.
- Familiarity with EMC, environmental, and non-functional testing practices.
- Proven background in quality assurance, including design documentation standards and compliance oversight.
- Experience coordinating complex test events across cross-functional teams.
- Excellent stakeholder communication and risk management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Engineering, Systems, Electronics, or Mechanical disciplines, or equivalent UK defence/military technical experience.
- Must be eligible for, or already hold, UK SC-Level Security Clearance.
