Tired of working on the same embedded Linux projects over and over? Ready to take your kernel development skills to the next level?
Joining our team as a Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer, you'll use your expertise across a broad range of systems – from video streaming equipment and satellite communication platforms, to industrial control systems and aircraft data recorders. Every project brings new technical challenges and the chance to work with cutting-edge hardware.
You're going to fit in if you love diving deep into kernel development, crafting custom drivers, and solving complex embedded problems across diverse industries.
When you join us, you'll already have strong embedded Linux experience. But this won't be the end of your story.
You will have your own personal development plan, a mentor, your IET membership fees paid, and support for continued learning – whether that's becoming a Chartered Engineer, contributing to open-source projects, or exploring advanced kernel development techniques.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including FPGA engineers, hardware designers, systems engineers, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions that push the boundaries of what's possible.
Our culture and way of working has been recognised in the South Coast Tech Awards where we were the winner of the 'Tech Employer of the year' in 2019 and finalists again in 2023 and 2024 with particular praise for how we support the continued development of our team.
You can work in the Southampton office, or on a hybrid basis.
You will work across the full development lifecycle, from initial requirements through to deployment. You will be responsible for:
System Architecture: Designing embedded Linux software architectures that meet demanding performance and reliability requirements.
Kernel Development: Implementing and modifying Linux kernels for custom hardware platforms, including device tree configuration and optimization.
Driver Development: Creating robust Linux drivers for specialized hardware components using frameworks like V4L2, DRM, and ALSA.
Team Leadership: Preparing work packages for other engineers, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior developers.
Client Collaboration: Working directly with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.
Quality Assurance: Developing comprehensive test plans and debugging complex system-level issues.
