Energy Team Services
Our energy team undertakes varied work across different sectors, including:
- Production of Energy Statements in support of planning applications, setting out the energy strategy and approach to decarbonisation, with consideration of efficient design as well as low carbon / renewable technology options.
- Assessment of the risk of overheating in buildings in line with CIBSE TM 52/59 through dynamic simulation modelling (DSM) using tools such as IESVE and presentation of findings within Thermal Comfort Appraisals.
- Simulation of anticipated Operational Energy Performance through detailed modelling following the CIBSE TM54 approach.
- Undertaking Climate Change Appraisals to assess the potential impact of new development on climate change as well as the impact of climate change on the development.
- Auditing organisations to assess energy consumption and reporting in line with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) requirements.
- Modelling of buildings to using SAP and SBEM to assess compliance with the Building Regulations / Standards as well as for the generation of Energy Performance Certificates.
Services that the team is currently seeking to develop further include:
- Microclimate Analysis including the use of software to examine effect of the built environment on the microclimate (e.g., windspeed analysis – pedestrian comfort).
- More detailed consideration of fabric design including assessment against Passivhaus standards.
Job Description
We are currently looking for an experienced energy consultant to support and help develop the energy team.
The opportunity would suit an individual seeking to expand horizons into new sectors, as well gain more responsibility in an entrepreneurial environment.
Anticipated responsibilities include:
- Setting an example for others to follow and aligning the energy team’s activities with the overarching ambitions of the company.
- Providing mentorship and support to junior team members to help them grow; and to ensure quality and consistency.
- Engaging with clients for the purposes of maintaining existing and developing new relationships.
- Undertaking quality assurance of work undertaken by juniors.
- Delivery of more strategic energy statements and complex projects.
- Review processes and establishment of alternative procedures (where necessary) for the purpose of improving efficiency and quality (including presentation).
Desired Knowledge / Skills
- Applicants will hold at least one degree in a relevant discipline, ideally also educated to a Masters Degree level.
- 3-7 years direct experience in one or more of the aspects listed above.
- A good understanding of UK planning context. Experience delivering energy strategies for successful planning applications would also be desirable.
- A good knowledge and working experience with VE-IES software is essential.
- A good understanding of the function and application of renewable and low carbon technologies in the context of property.
- An awareness of carbon footprinting standards is useful.
- Experience with team management and mentoring would be desirable.
- Project management skills are essential.
- Experience in putting together and winning proposals and good client management skills are strongly desirable.
- Proven analytical skills and data management.
- Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills (including customer liaison).
- IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in English is required. Other language skills would be considered positively on the basis that the wider business regularly undertakes work internationally.
- Self-starter with career ambition.
- Current right to work in the UK and/or Spain is a must.
