Job summary
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. Our purpose is to protect energy consumers, especially vulnerable people, by ensuring they are treated fairly and benefit from a cleaner, greener environment.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our Engineering Hub within the Engineering & Technology directorate. This is your chance to play a key role in shaping the UK’s energy future as we transition to a net-zero system.
You’ll provide expert engineering and policy support across Ofgem, working on critical areas such as network price controls, regulation of networks, industry codes, innovation projects, and the low-carbon transition. Your work will help ensure Ofgem has the technical capability to deliver its regulatory responsibilities effectively.
In this role, you will lead high-quality engineering analysis and provide clear recommendations to policy teams. You’ll take ownership of technical policy areas managed by the Engineering Hub, including network codes, and support delivery of electricity price controls such as reopeners or RIIO-3 and wider network regulation.
You’ll engage with network companies to explore smarter ways of developing networks, including smart grid technologies, and contribute to innovation projects while assessing technical aspects of code changes or derogations. Representing Ofgem externally at meetings, conferences, and events will be a key part of your role, as well as drafting public documents and presenting recommendations to senior management.
This role offers variety, challenge, and the chance to influence how we deliver engineering solutions that shape the UK’s energy future. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including licensees, NESO, DESNZ, UKRI, and HSE.
Join us and help shape the future of energy in the UK.
