Job Purpose
Successful candidates will require a strong wastewater modelling background to enable them to be responsible for all their technical related activities within modelling and across the organisation.
Working as part of the wastewater modelling/engineering team, the senior engineer (modelling) role will include:
- Working closely and maintaining strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients
- Provide Engineering support to capital programme, operational and strategy teams.
- Responsible for the delivery of a range of projects, studies and investigations throughout United Utilities including data gathering and analysis, design, preparation of documents, drawings and specifications, review of proposals by others and providing advice and responses to other team members.
- Line management for technical staff within their UU Engineering Discipline team
- Mentor and supervise developing engineers from across the business
- Raising the profile of UU technical leadership in the water industry and other sectors
- Organising and managing commission orders e.g. to external modelling contracts
- Development & improvement of UU’s Engineering standards and procedures
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be accountable for:
- Ensuring that all activities undertaken and engineering outputs provided are in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and Accepted Practice
- Working closely and maintaining strong relationships with engineering and programme managers within their delivery area and with all internal clients and partners
- Leading a team of technical resources and having responsibility for technical decision-making
- Responsible for the technical delivery of projects within budget and programme to all internal clients
- Ensuring that all engineering outputs provided are in accordance with an appropriate Quality Management System e.g. checked and verified calculations, drawings, specifications, and United Utilities’ Company Standards.
- Assist in managing the company-wide technical competency framework ensuring it is fit for purpose and applied with a consistent approach
- Owner of standards relating to technical software and hardware
- Providing technical consistency

- Responsibility for raising the external profile of UU
- To maintain and develop discipline engineering expertise
Technical Skills & Experience
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following
essential criteria:
- Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise.
- Strong technical competence in wastewater modelling and leadership skills.
- Experience in leading successful modelling resources in a highly technical and commercial environment.
- Wastewater modelling experience needs to be in in the use of Innovyze InfoWorks ICM software.
- Hold a full UK/EU driving licence.
