West Berkshire Council's Transport and Countryside Service is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Traffic & Road Safety Team, reporting to the Principal Engineer. The Role
Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the Principal Engineer in the management and delivery of engineering projects and services. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the design, implementation, and maintenance of Traffic & Road Safety projects
- Conducting feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical investigations into road safety projects.
- Providing expert engineering advice and guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders
- Managing contracts and liaising with contractors to ensure successful project delivery
- Undertaking data collection and analysis, including traffic surveys and road safety assessments
- Preparing reports, briefings, and recommendations for decision-making
In addition to the above, you will also have the opportunity to mentor and support junior engineers, fostering their professional development.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Proven experience working as an Engineer within a similar environment
- Sound knowledge of transport engineering principles, practices, and legislation
- Strong technical skills in design, analysis, and problem-solving
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Organised and able to manage multiple priorities, ensuring timely delivery of projects
A relevant engineering qualification and membership of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IET) are desirable.
