We are looking for a committed and knowledgeable Senior Environmental Advisor to join the delivery team on a nationally significant infrastructure project in Scotland. Description
As a Senior Environmental Advisor you will work within a multidisciplinary project delivery team to ensure environmental compliance, risk management, and performance improvement across all project activities. You will contribute to environmental planning, construction-phase monitoring, regulatory liaison, and environmental reporting to help deliver infrastructure that meets high environmental and sustainability standards. The role is ideally suitable for any qualified environmental professional with an interest in construction and civil engineering. This is primarily a site-based role supporting our project delivery teams. The role is suitable for any environmental professional with a pre-existing background in environmental science, environmental engineering or other related subjects and who has previous experience in construction or civil engineering.
The Senior Environmental Advisor shall be suitably qualified and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising construction sites. This will be a full-time, permanent, site-based role in Perth and Kinross, with an immediate start.
As our successful candidate you will be competent in the following areas:
Core Competency Requirements
- 3 Years + experience in a similar advisory role within the construction/Civil Engineering industry ideally on large-scale or complex infrastructure projects..
- Recognised Qualification in environmental science, hydrology, environmental engineering, water resources or similar.
- Recognised 3rd Level Qualification in Environmental Management (including ecology, water management, sustainability, etc.)
- Familiarity with relevant environmental legislation and permitting processes.
- High standard of written and spoken English.
- Proficient in using a computer (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Valid CSCS card required.
- Full UK (manual) driving licence.
Day To Day Duties
- Implementing Wills Bros ISO 14001 Management System.
- Working under the guidance of the company Ecology and Environmental Manager and the project Environmental Co-ordinator.
- Supporting the delivery of the Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), and project-specific management plans and mitigation strategies.
- Building up a good working relationship with the client and the workforce.
- Conduct daily and weekly environmental inspections, audits, and site assessments to ensure compliance with permits, legislation, and internal policies.
- Provide advice and training to project teams and contractors on environmental obligations and best practices.
- Advising site management on day-to-day environmental matters.
- Coordinate with environmental regulators, local authorities, and other stakeholders to support approvals and manage compliance requirements.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Identify and assess environmental risks, and contribute to their effective management and mitigation.
- Support the integration of circular economy, biodiversity net gain, and carbon reduction initiatives into project design and delivery.
- Collaborate with planning, design, and construction teams to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into all phases of work.
- Managing waste management and chemical compliance requirements.
- Attending and contributing to environmental meetings.
- Investigating incidents and completing environmental incident reports.
- Promoting and encouraging best practice.
- Overseeing the installation of adequate and appropriate pollution prevention measures.
- Undertaking and overseeing daily, weekly and monthly environmental monitoring, data analysis and reporting.
- Produce a regular log of testing and results; and a detailed report on findings every month for inclusion in the monthly environmental report.
- Delivering toolbox talks on environmental matters.
- Delivers emergency spill response training to all site personnel.
- Attending and chairing environmental meetings.
- Investigating environmental incidents and near misses and sharing lessons learned.
- Reviewing documentation for appropriate environmental content (method statements, etc.)
- Oversee, organise and co-ordinate the dedicated water management team.
- Be a key contact in the emergency spill response organogram.
- Any other duties required by a fast-changing construction environment.
Desirable Attributes/Experience
- Valid CSCS Card appropriate to seniority level.
- Some knowledge of Hydrology or Water Engineering very beneficial.
- Knowledge or experience of water quality monitoring and silt prevention techniques.
- Knowledge of noise and vibration monitoring.
- Ecological Knowledge or Experience.
- Experience of working on large civil engineering projects (Road construction).
- Membership of a recognised environmental body (IEMA/SocEnv/CIWEM/CIEEM or other).
- Experience of working to an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Passionate about the Environmental Profession.
- Lead environmental compliance at a site level.
