The role
You will be the Senior Full Stack Engineer on Slingshot's Machine Learning team, developing with machine learning engineers and applied scientists to train and align conversational models and agents for the psychology domain. You'll work with a team of predominately ML engineers to implement features that lead to the best experience for end-users who are going through mental health challenges. You'll also work with conversational designers, writers, and psychotherapists who interact with our tools to develop our product experience.
In this role, you’ll truly be working full-stack. You will be your own product manager and designer, taking on difficult problems and solving them through a ruthlessly experimental mindset.
You'll primarily be working with NextJS (Typescript, Vercel, Supabase). You'll also interact with our Kotlin backend, Flutter mobile app, and python machine learning services. You'll be working with custom in-house language models along with voice models (text-to-speech and speech-to-text) and large language models.
About You
- Expert in React and have experience using a wide range of modern tooling like NextJS, TRPC, React Query, Styled Components, Tailwind, ShadCN, etc.
- Solid experience building and shipping web applications zero-to-one, including backend, frontend, databases, and any relevant infrastructure.
- Experience with modern backend technologies and architectures like microservices, message queues, caching layers, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Product-obsessed and able to independently develop features end-to-end, acting as your own product manager.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment, working at lightning speed to ship fast.
- Self starter and a keen learner with an ability pick up new tools, languages, and concepts on the job. We don’t need you to be an Machine Learning Engineer, but having an interest in AI helps!
Key Responsibilities
- In close collaboration with our Machine Learning team, build new interfaces and leverage first-party and third-party AI models for understanding our data and how users interact with our model.
- Create new software-driven processes that allow our clinical team to design conversations and align our Ash model to the best user experiences.
- Contribute to our internal evals platform for evaluating our model performance and ensuring new models are safe.
- Take initiative to independently prototype entirely new product features based on customer feedback and your own product intuitions.
- While software development on our machine learning team will be your primary focus, we encourage everyone to be comfortable working in all parts of our stack, which includes the app (Dart/Flutter) and ML scripts for evaluation, data processing, and model training (Python).
