Description

At Splash Damage, we don’t just code mechanics. We create the feel, the tension, the responsiveness, and the weight behind our players' every move. As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, your work shapes how players experience our games.

You’ll partner with design, animation, and production to build gameplay systems that feel fluid, expressive, and deliberate. You’ll push for responsive control, performance, and scalability across high-fidelity FPS and 3rd person games. Your code will be modular, adaptable, and built to survive iteration.

You don’t just ship features. You own experiences. You lead through your work and help elevate the engineers around you

What you'll do:

  • Working in Unreal to implement and iterate on gameplay features, systems, and mechanics across our projects
  • Build scalable, modular systems that support iteration, long-term maintainability, and performance
  • Collaborate closely with design, animation, and production to translate ideas into polished, playable experiences
  • Optimize gameplay code for responsiveness and stability, especially in multiplayer settings
  • Support high-fidelity FPS gameplay, ensuring feel and performance meet our studio standards
  • Identify risks and edge cases early, and solve them before they become blockers
  • Help shape internal gameplay frameworks and tools that improve development velocity
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on gameplay implementation and best practices
  • Help define and maintain a high bar for code quality, clarity, and documentation

What we're looking for:

  • You’ve built and owned complex user-facing systems, either in games, in tools, or apps. Always with care for performance, feel, and quality.
  • You write clean, maintainable, performant C++ and know how to ship real products with it
  • You have experience working alongside designers, artists, or other non-engineering partners to shape interactive experiences
  • You care about systems that are modular, extensible, and designed to evolve over time
  • You’re comfortable thinking in terms of latency, input response, and the small details that make experiences feel responsive and alive
  • You’ve mentored other engineers, contributed to shared codebases, and helped raise the quality of a team’s work
  • You’re curious, collaborative, and confident in ambiguity, and you can translate big ideas into practical solutions

Bonus Points:

  • You’ve worked on responsive interactive systems
  • You’ve supported products with live updates, rapid iteration, or user feedback loops
  • You know your way around profiling tools and performance debugging in complex environments
  • You’re excited about building systems for high-fidelity, real-time 3D experiences—even if you haven’t done it yet
  • You’re new to games and want to bring fresh perspective, skills, and energy to a creative team
