We have an exciting new opportunity for a motivated and talented individual who will play a key role in the Handbook Team, which sits in the Cross-Cutting Policy department. This role is a fixed-term role, available until the end of the current financial year to 31 March '26.

The Cross-Cutting Policy department is responsible for the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA’s) cross-cutting policy initiatives – these being topics that impact all the sectors we regulate – and provides technical support to colleagues supervising firms’ compliance with these requirements. The department leads on delivering robust cross-cutting frameworks. We develop and maintain cross-cutting policy initiatives that apply across most markets we regulate.

The FCA’s Handbook team is responsible for the FCA Handbook of rules and guidance, including:

  • editorial oversight of the FCA Handbook
  • maintaining the monthly Board and Consultation production cycles
  • driving critical policy initiatives

This high-impact work ensures UK financial services markets have clear rules and guidance setting out our expectations to over 60,000 firms regulated by the FCA and the key individuals that run them. The team also ensures that we maintain a Handbook that is fit for purpose as we move into a new and uncertain environment. The team work closely with others across all policy areas at the FCA, our Legal Division, and Editorial & Digital in our Comms Department.

What will you be doing?

  • Editing and proofing Handbook-related content
  • Taking ownership for key deliverables, ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to a high standard
  • Owning the delivery of the monthly Board Handbook changes and regular publications
  • Developing excellent working relationships with stakeholders across the FCA including Policy and the Legal Division

Minimum

  • Experience of drafting and editing documents and regular publications, such as corporate documents, legal documents or public papers

Essential

  • Ability to communicate persuasively, succinctly and credibly, verbally and in writing
  • Experience of leading and delivering multiple initiatives and the ability to navigate all levels of governance
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve shared goals and to support and assist others
  • Capability to identify and manage key stakeholders – both internal and external – build rapport and constructive relationships, liaising assertively at all levels
  • Strong time-management skills, able to deliver multiple tasks under pressure and within challenging timeframes
  • Willingness to learn and develop, take on new responsibilities and adopt a flexible approach to work
