Senior Highways Engineer (Major Projects Team, Highways)
£45,750 - £49,056 per annum

Highways, Sustainable Transport and Parking Services are universal front facing services that all of our residents and visitors interact with. Therefore, it is vital that we strengthen these services and make them as responsive to our residents’ needs as possible. The Senior Highways Engineer role is key to enabling us to achieve this goal, working in a team of professionals delivering major projects for the borough.
Some of the Highway Improvement projects include Pool Street, Westfield Avenue, Royal Docks Corridor and Carpenters Road West. Highway improvements on Westfield Avenue and surrounding roads aiming to improve road layout within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which is multimillion pounds in value and Newham will be delivering these projects over the coming years.
The post-holder will need to support Senior Project Manager to help the delivery of the projects and managing a team of professionals. The post holder should be suitably experienced, hold a relevant degree in the highways design/ civil engineering field. Typically, this would suit a graduate with 5+ years’ experience.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience working on projects from preliminary design through to implementation of the scheme on site and managing junior staff, supervision of site and external contractors / consultants on a day-to-day basis. Working as part of the design team and the delivery team and will give the post holder all-round experience of a delivery of a highways project in the urban realm.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east.
