In a nutshell

At Virgin Atlantic, we don’t just fly—we elevate experiences. As we navigate a bold future, we’re looking for a commercially-minded audit leader who’s ready to shape how risk, assurance, and governance evolve in a fast-moving, customer-led business.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with industry experience in a large organisation, who thrives in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment and brings a track record of leading teams and driving meaningful impact. Whether your background is internal audit, risk, or finance, you’ll play a pivotal role in enabling confident, informed decision-making across the business.

You’ll lead delivery of our audit plan, coach a talented in-house team, and be a trusted advisor to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders. If you’re looking to make your mark in a business that values innovation, pace, and purpose—this is your runway.

Day to day

  • Lead delivery of the audit plan while developing and coaching your team of Senior Internal Auditors.
  • Personally deliver complex or high-impact audits, including those requiring sensitive judgement or cross-functional coordination.
  • Own and evolve our internal audit methodology, reporting processes, and assurance quality standards.
  • Manage co-source partner relationships and in-house assurance capabilities.
  • Partner with senior leaders across the business to embed best-practice risk and control frameworks.
  • Support enterprise-level risk workshops and provide structured insights to the Executive and Board.
  • Oversee the Group’s whistleblowing policy and coordinate investigations involving serious misconduct or fraud.
  • Champion continuous improvement and drive advisory work that enhances efficiency, strengthens control, or unlocks commercial value.
  • Support training, risk education, and enterprise risk compliance across directorates.

About you

You're a dynamic, strategic audit or risk professional with the ability to influence, lead, and deliver in a complex organisation. You bring a commercial lens, a pragmatic mindset, and the confidence to operate at pace.

You’ll have:

  • Experience in internal audit or risk within industry or commerce, ideally in a large or complex business.
  • Strong team management experience, with a collaborative leadership style and ability to develop high-performing teams.
  • A professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIA, CISA/ISACA) and at least 5 years' post-qualified experience.
  • Proven ability to build credibility with senior stakeholders, from Exec to Board.
  • Deep understanding of risk, control, and assurance frameworks, aligned to IIA standards.
  • Strength in navigating cross-functional change, resolving ambiguity, and influencing outcomes.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Exposure to the C-suite or Audit Committee
  • Expertise in one or more specialist areas such as:
  • Fraud investigation or forensic audit
  • Cybersecurity or IT audit
  • Data analytics and continuous audit automation
  • M&A or commercial due diligence
