Department Biology Pipeline

Key Responsibilities The individual will join a new team in the Pipeline Biology, Drug Discovery department aiming to generate high quality cell samples for immunopeptidomic analysis or cell-based assays and exemplify the highest standards of quality and efficiency in cell culture techniques across the company.

The primary purpose of this role is to conduct routine laboratory procedures or defined experimental investigations, with supervision and guidance from colleagues and managers, to support scientists & the advancement of the company pipeline, process, or technology capabilities and to support the day-to-day maintenance of the biology laboratories, laboratory stocks, and equipment in collaboration with other technicians and the company’s facilities & laboratory Operations team.

The successful candidate is expected to leverage strong working knowledge in aseptic techniques and cell culture methodologies. The individual will perform cell culture experiments including the generation, maintenance and propagation of various cell lines as well as developing and optimizing cell culture protocols to enhance reproducibility and efficiency in addition. They will also effectively participate and present at internal meetings. While errors may result in delays and minor cost impacts, the role normally follows established procedures for routine work and requires instructions for new assignments. The individual works under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of all work and data generated following Company procedure by completing experiment write ups & electronic laboratory notebooks on time.
  • Operate in accordance with the Company’s Codes of Practices and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
  • Maintain and increase technical knowledge in relevant fields through self-study, observation, attending relevant training courses.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is operated in accordance with relevant protocols and/or SOPs and safety & risk guidelines; acting promptly to report any faults or problems to the relevant member of staff.

Other

  • Conduct routine cell biology activities (e.g. cell culture) to support identification of novel targets, assays supporting molecule screening and/or preclinical packages, following set protocols and/or manager/supervisor’s guidance and in accordance with set timelines.  
  • Generate high-quality reagents and biological samples.
  • Provide technical support to scientist within the department.
  • Supports the advancement of company's pipeline, process and/or technology capabilities.
  • Coordinate scientific instruments maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain the day-to-day operation of biology laboratories, working in collaboration with technical colleagues, the Laboratory Operations team and relevant managers.  
  • Propose and/or implement improvements to technical operations in department /building after consultation with, and agreement of colleagues and managers. 
  • Run pre-established experimental investigations, with guidance from managers, mentors or colleagues. 

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

Essential Qualifications:

  • A level, BSc or relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications & experience:

  • Practical experience with cell culture techniques including culture of suspension, semi-adherent or adherent cancer cell line, normal human cells, stock preparation.
  • Practical experience with lentivirus including production of lentivirus and transduction.

Experience:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
  • Good Communication skills - Ensuring information and work is passed on correctly and in a timely way to those who depend on it.
  • Shown flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and practices.
