Description
How You'll Make a Difference

As a Senior Licensing Enforcement Officer, you will help shape and improve the licensing service to ensure it’s consistent and effective across the council. The Licensing Team covers a wide range of licensing functions throughout the local community from alcohol licenses, gambling premises and the licensing of taxi and private hire drivers and vehicles.

What You Will Be Doing

  • It will be your responsibility to manage a small team of Licensing Officers, providing support, guidance and development.
  • It will be key for you to provide specialist knowledge and advice to colleagues, local business, and members of the community.
  • Under the guidance of the Licensing Services Manager, you will undertake frontline operational work including inspections, evidence gathering and preparing prosecution files and witness statements.
  • Using your experience and knowledge, you will contribute towards the development of processes, procedures and policies, ensuring a high level of service is maintained.
  • You will prepare reports for committees and attend hearings and meetings, including court, where required.
  • Occasionally, you will work within the local community outside of office hours.

What We Need From You

  • We require you to have licensing experience and can demonstrate a knowledge of regulations and licensing enforcement.
  • You will have experience in leadership, management or mentoring, in a regulatory function.
  • You must be able to manage the workload of the team, prioritising and responding to demands to ensure both customer satisfaction and legislative requirements are met.
  • It is essential you can communicate effectively and engage with a range of audiences, as at times you may be dealing with challenging situations.
  • Given the elements of this role, you need to have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

What You Need To Know

  • Evening and weekend working is an integral part of the post to ensure compliance in the licensed trades, therefore there is some occasion work outside of the normal office hours.
  • You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.

Interviews will be held on 29th July 2025.
