Connect to your opportunity

Do you want to help Deloitte’s insurance clients navigate their most important challenges and opportunities during this period of profound disruption? Do you want to make an impact with your fresh, original ideas and creative thinking? If so, then read on…

Deloitte’s insurance group brings together specialists from actuarial, risk, operations, technology, tax, and audit. These skill sets, combined with deep industry knowledge, allow Deloitte to provide a breadth of services to our life, property and casualty, reinsurance, and broker clients. Focusing on the UK insurance market, you will have an opportunity to scope, research, write, and deliver high-quality eminence and data-driven analysis to support our position in the market. You will also be a key part of a strong and vibrant FS Insights team, working alongside specialists in the other FS sectors of Banking & Capital Markets, Investment Management & Wealth, and Real Estate.

In developing and executing flagship Insurance projects, from industry surveys, reports, and presentations to shorter, snappier articles, you will be building lasting relationships across the Insurance practice and wider Insights team. This in turn will help you to build a strong personal brand across the firm, within the market, and with our clients.

On joining the firm, you will engage with colleagues around the business to generate fresh market perspectives. The role will have high visibility, offering frequent opportunities to interact with senior stakeholders. It would therefore be ideal for a talented professional with a background in insurance research and strategy with expertise in researching and writing on insurance trends. This role offers significant scope to create meaningful impact, both individually and collaboratively as part of the wider UK FS Insights team.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

You are a self-starter, curious about the trends driving the UK insurance sector and possessed of a strong, analytical approach to research. Candidates will bring strong communication skills and a point of view on the industry, together with a proven track record of delivery across research, analysis, and business writing, demonstrating the ability to bring their breakout thinking to life.

You are a natural collaborator. Day-to-day you will be working with senior Deloitte colleagues across the wider Clients & Markets team, as well as the Insurance practice, to develop client-focused points of view on the UK insurance market. This will involve connecting practice colleagues with key data and insights, working with senior stakeholders to develop innovative research proposals, as well as the creation of research and data assets in collaboration with our colleagues in Marketing and PR. Your work will contribute to sustaining and growing our trusted brand in the UK financial services marketplace. You will also have the opportunity to work with practice colleagues to support key client relationships through the creation, delivery and presentation of high-quality insights. Likewise, as part of a wider FS sector team, there will be frequent opportunities to bring your talents and expertise to bear on wider sector trends, working closely with other Insights Leads.

You manage stakeholders effectively. Our collaborative projects require us to build trust-based relationships with senior stakeholders quickly. We need someone who can demonstrate understanding of Deloitte’s Insurance practice strategy and priorities in order to identify and propose relevant research opportunities. The successful candidate will also act, and be seen as, an advisor to our internal stakeholders. Additionally, you will be required to manage and foster positive ongoing relationship with key stakeholders in Deloitte in order to build and grow UK FS Insights credibility and engagement.

You naturally take the initiative. We don’t sit back and wait for ideas to find us. Instead, we need someone who brings out the best in others as an inspiring leader, talented listener, and well organised doer. With your “market making mindset" you will to support the growth of our business without compromising our standards, integrity, or culture. We’re all about letting our leaders lead, and we’ll give you the breathing space you need to do so.

Difference is what keeps Deloitte strong, successful, and diverse. We champion individuality and want people to be true to themselves. As such, we have divided the knowledge, skills and experience we are looking for into two areas. Essentials are those skills we think you need to be successful in the role, while desirables are just that - beneficial extras you bring to the role that could enrich the wider team and add something special to the mix.

Essential skills and experience

  • Relevant experience is a must, ideally gained from a previous research role covering the UK insurance market. This might have been for an insurer or underwriter, for a consulting firm, an industry analyst or advisor, or other independent research provider or association.
  • Be a competent and confident writer. Much of the value you will bring to this role will come from your ability to tell interesting, client-driven stories with the research and analysis you create. We expect candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of analytical writing in their previous roles. Your ability to explain your findings, what they mean, and why the intended audience should act on your recommendations will be essential to your success in this role.
  • A genuine interest in the UK insurance market is also essential. You need to be knowledgeable in the trends, strategies, opportunities, and challenges driving the sector, with informed points of view on key areas of the market, across life and pensions, non-life insurance and reinsurance.
  • Deep knowledge of multiple research and analytical methodologies and frameworks. Much of the work we do concerns the acquisition and analysis of data, gained both from bespoke primary research as well as third-party sources. You should be confident in your method, using the right data to address the question at hand, leaning on your experience to advise your stakeholders on the best approach. Well laid out deliverables are a must, allowing us to update, reuse and repurpose our best thinking as the markets we address continue to evolve.
  • Written and oral communication skills. An ability to inform and inspire both expert and non-technical audiences through both the written and spoken word is essential. Our work requires our research and analysis to be shared with internal stakeholders and to Deloitte’s clients. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in creating compelling presentations and comfort in speaking to internal and external audiences, often including senior stakeholders.
  • Project management skills. Overseeing research projects to ensure flawless execution from scoping, budgeting, research and analysis, writing, report design and production and launch. This will include, on occasion, working with third-party providers and other stakeholders, managing the delivery process from end-to-end.
  • Being self-motivated is essential. As well as executing research, you will be working with your practice and Insights colleagues in Clients & Markets to generate fresh ideas. If you like to take the initiative, build trust-based relationships with your stakeholders, and use your industry point of view - steeped in the trends driving your sector - to power your thinking, you’ll fit right in.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Quantitative skills would be a big advantage. There are big opportunities here for those with a taste for data-driven insight, as you develop and leverage your quantitative skills on projects. This could involve working with colleagues on data modelling in MS Excel, storytelling with data in PowerBI, and the design of robust surveys and fieldwork interviews to generate unique insights.
  • Commercial astuteness. An understanding of the operating models and propositions underpinning UK insurance businesses, while not essential, is desirable in order to optimise the impact of our research and storytelling with Deloitte’s clients.
  • Innovative practices. Proactively working with other Insights colleagues and wider Deloitte teams to continuously improve processes, bring best practices, and ensure understanding and expectations of current and future research needs.
  • Team players please apply. Beyond the day-to-day requirements of the role, there will be lots of opportunities to contribute to wider team projects. If you have experience in coaching, training, or working with your colleagues to develop new processes and strategies, that would definitely be of interest.
