Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a Senior Manager in our Waste and Streetscene department to provide strategic leadership in the delivery and transformation of domestic waste collection, recycling services, and Streetscene operations. This role focuses on ensuring efficient, sustainable waste services while driving initiatives to modernise and improve service delivery across the Council area.
As a key member of the Thriving Places Management Team, you will contribute to shaping a high-performing, empowered Council that delivers excellent services for residents and communities. You will provide expert advice on waste, recycling, and Streetscene matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and Council policies.
You will manage and optimise a £20 million budget, identify opportunities for income generation and efficiencies, and support the development and delivery of the Waste and Streetscene strategies and policies. Inspiring and developing your teams, you will cultivate a culture that empowers staff to deliver outstanding services and attract top talent.
In addition, you will keep abreast of developments in waste management and Streetscene services, promoting innovation and challenging current practices to enhance outcomes for communities. A strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing is essential.
Who we are looking for…
You will hold a relevant degree or NVQ Level 5 (or equivalent) and be a member of a professional body. You’ll have strong knowledge of waste collection, recycling, disposal, treatment, and Streetscene services, alongside expertise in asset, project, and contract management.
Extensive leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, complex programmes, and financial systems is essential. You will demonstrate political awareness and the ability to communicate effectively with elected Members, partners, senior management, and staff.
